I don't even know what that is, but... Looks it up ...Yeah, like 4x over my budget. That's more expensive than the TV was.

I was looking at stuff like this, but the problem is that I'm not speaker-literate enough to know whether this actually has what I need, can't find any advice that isn't focused on things I don't need, and don't know who I could ask about it. Plus, one of the reviews mentioned an audio delay if you use the cables out of the box, and I don't know how much extra a better set of cables would be (or whether I would end up getting the right ones).

I bought the Dell AW3418DW about 4 months ago, absolutely love it. However it's summer now and it gets really fucking hot and I don't always want to hear headsets while gaming and watching videos. So I would like to get some reasonably priced (under $200) speakers to go with my monitor.

I don't know a lot about sound systems, but if you find that you're turning on the subtitles because you have a hard time understanding people on TV even if they don't thick accents or anything, I'd recommend getting a sound bar or something like that. This is the one I got and it made watching TV much more enjoyable without costing an arm and a leg. My only complaint with this model is that each level of volume is a major step so there's not a lot of middle ground when picking the volume haha!

Room looks great though!

(Budget) Soundbar? [R]

April 5, 2017

I'm looking to add a budget soundbar to my living room for playing music videos/music. [Meaning <= $100] (If it's slightly over that's ok, like $125 I could do. $150 is stretching it)

I don't mind if it's refurbished (unless yall highly suggest against it)

I live in an apartment so the living room is not that big. Mainly I'm wishing to add some quality as the Vizio TV sound can get somewhat loud but the bass is obviously non existent.

Ease of use is also important. I'd like it to hook up through something simple like HDMI. Don't want to have to buy extra parts like a receiver.

Suggestions? I'm looking on Amazon but don't know how to find sales on a specific category (soundbar).

I know absolutely nothing about audio, and when i've looked a lot of the soundbar products have absolutely 0 professional reviews. I will mainly use it to watch movies & tv shows streamed from my HTPC with some occasional music

I've looked into these 3, and they all have roughly the same price. Any opinions about them, or any other suggestions in the same price category?

Here's an $80 solution that will sound much better than your TV speakers.

Try to turn off any pseudo-surround processing on your TV, or the voices tend to end up sounding too quiet. Also, depending on the TV, I've noticed that using the RCA jacks can actually sound better than using an optical cable in some cases. Not sure why, but it's happened that way a couple of times.

Someday, if you save up for a bigger system for your TV, an old soundbar connected to a Chromecast Audio is a great addition to your garage. :)

At the same time, I heard that the 2017 iPhone is going to be a massive overhaul, and bring a ton of changes and a new design. Basically what I'm saying is, if I am planning on switching phones again in a year, would I be better off buying the 6s or the 6? I can get the 64gb 6 for cheaper than the 16gb 6s.

The car and stereo at home thing is definitely a good point, definitely not something to "boo friggity hoo" about.

Knowing apple they will introduce a lightning to 3.5mm adapter which is pants on head stupid because if they feel the need to introduce something like that, why not just keep the 3.5mm jack.

You brought up something I didn't think about with the stereo issue.

Is it like a LARGE stereo at home? Or a smaller one?

I ask because I bought this sound bar for my home gym and it's pretty loud. But if you have a home theater thing then that bites. There are other sound bars with subwoofers for a similar price

As for the car thing, it would cost about $50-$60 to get something like this installed. Wouldn't really help with the "in a friend's car" situation though.

I think apple is trying to bring their brand back to "premium" status since now the samsung phones are costing more than the iphones. Since most cars in the past 5 years were built with bluetooth, it's an indirect way to cut people who don't have newer vehicles.

I have a tiny bit (7 inches wide) of space to the left of my monitor, any other speaker would have to go behind my 2nd monitor. I put the tower on top of the desk to make more storage under the desk, so now I have practically no space for anything. The space under my main monitor is part of the reason I'm finding a soundbar style of speaker attractive. I was looking at this thing, but I have no idea if it's any good.

Best Soundbar <200 [R]

I'm looking for the best soundbar with a digital input for my TV (I'll edit later with the brand and model) that comes with a sub woofer. If I could get away with a comparable surround sound system, that would be awesome.

Please tell me models, or links to find more expensive systems for my price range.

I love the hate you're getting instead of any kind of help. That really does everyone so much good.

So soundbars are normally recommened because they are pretty much throw away devices as soon as any part of them doesn't work you're out the money it costs to buy one. They also offer very little flexibility when compared to an AVR & speaker setup. You don't get to change your speaker placement, you don't normally get any additional inputs, and you can't upgrade them with different parts.

So that being said they do offer better sound than a TV and with a budget of less than $200 (the cost of just an AVR) you're pretty much limited to one.

Here are my recommendations if you have to get a soundbar. Make it less than 200, wired sub if you can, and try to get one with bass and treble controls.

For less than $200 here's what I would do: Vizio Soundbar $80-100 depending on the model, a Dayton Sub 800 $100, and Subwoofer cable $8 for the 15' should do nicely.

This setup is right at or just over your budget but you do get an actual subwoofer that you can use with an AVR in the future. This way you're not throwing all your money away on a proprietary soundbar/sub combo.

[HELP] Cheap 2.1 setup for TV [R]

4 years agoArmsc posted submission on hometheater.
March 25, 2016

Hello everyone! Sorry beforehand if I break any rules with my post, please just let me know and I'll try to fix it as soon as I can.

I have a 55" TV that I use for movies/games/music. I'd like to get a couple of speakers and a sub woofer to make it sound better. I don't really need the fancy stuff (the DVD player, the bluetooth connection, the remote, etc). Just a couple of PC speakers with a sub connected somehow to my TV. Is that possible?

My TV has a digital audio, and a 3.5mm exit. The 2.1 PC speakers I've seen usually have 3 3.5mm cables. How can I make this build real simple and real cheap?

I have seen some audio receivers around, but they are so expensive, and have a lot of features I don't think I'll use. Do I need one of those?

Sorry if it's a very noob-ish question, just point me in the right direction and I'll be going.

4 years agoArmsc posted on hometheater.
March 25, 2016

Most computer speakers are going to sound well like computer speakers. If you get computer speakers worth anything you're going to be in soundbar territory. That's assuming that you're going to use the 3.5mm (I don't recommend) if not then you're going to be searching for a set with optical/digital inputs. If that's the case you might as well get a soundbar/soundbase and get the included remote and tone controls. You can also look at some prepack 2.1 setups but they will be more expensive than your entry level soundbars and it sounds like you want something as cheap as you can get it.

So my recommendation is a Vizio Soundbar $80 if you like your bass then either add in a subwoofer $100 or get the Vizio with the subwoofer $160.

I have been using my ps4 on my tv in the family room and have just moved it to my room. I hooked it up to a monitor (Samsung SD360 Series S27D360H) and was wondering how I could get sound out of my ps4. What are my options here, thanks.

4 years, 1 month ago3600CCH6WRX posted on PS4.
Feb. 15, 2016

I think getting a good headphone is the best option. I recommend PS gold for an entry level, turtle beach if you want slightly better, or go all out with Astro.

If you are not the kind of person who like to wear headphone every time you game, maybe get sound bar that have Optical input. example,

In the mean time, you can use most of 3.5mm earpiece and plug it to your DS4 controller.

What i don't recommend is using a cheap eBay like USB to 3.5mm.

Hope you find what suit you the best.

Help - humble speakers for LED television [R]

Nov. 22, 2015

Hi, I'm so glad I found this subreddit. I need some help and if anyone is feeling especially helpful, I would really appreciate some!

I am looking for this to be part of a Christmas gift and would ideally like to spend around $50, $60 at the most if that is realistic which I imagine it is. I just need 2 or 3 speakers to put behind the seating area of this room to help with hearing the dialogue at a reasonable volume as the SOUNDTRACK BARRAGE is strong with Netflix and can often take over the house.

They don't need to be the best speakers in the world but obviously I don't want tin can audio quality. The biggest issue is that I have zero idea on what to shop for and how to set this up. I Googled and didn't care for the USB speaker "hack" recommendations and I can't seem to find something practical on Bestbuy's website and also am overwhelmed with Newegg.

Is there anyone who would help me out please?

If you're just looking for better sound in a bedroom then I think a soundbar suits that roll perfectly. I would look at these if I were you.

VIZIO SB2920-C6 Soundbar $80 simple 2.0 for a bedroom might lack some bass but that might not be so important for a bedroom.

VIZIO S2121w-D0 Soundstand $120 simply put your TV on top and away you go. This unit has the integrated "sub" so bass should be acceptable.

Vizio soundbar with sub $150 2.1 setup with wireless sub that sounds pretty good. You might be able to tuck the "sub" behind the TV.

Hello /rocksmith/s. I'm a beginner at guitar; picked up an Epiphone Les Paul Special II (which I love so far) and Rocksmith 2014 for my Xbox One. It's Day 1 and so far I'm really enjoying it, however (yes I know of this problem) the latency issue is fairly noticeable.
