Conan, what is best in dice? [R]5 months, 3 weeks agoKnight-Creep posted submission on rpg.

What qualities do you look for in your dice, and why?
Durability? Contrast? Appearance? Ease of rolling or reading? Weight? Unusual numbering? Quirkiness? Something else?

These are the best dice. Accept no substitutes.

What are things things you absolutely hate to see in games. Do just hate it when games use wound levels or how about that have punishing morality systems that stifle your style. Personally my biggest pet peeves for a game system are:
1 custom dice that have to be used, if I can't use my own dice then I absolutely will not play the game.
2 needlessly complex rules that clearly exist just to balance the game part of the game. This mostly shows up in the more tactical combat game.
3 no so much a problem that can't be fixed but I dislike games that have bad layout on character sheets. I should not have to remake the sheet

Technically you could play the whole game with a single d12 and d8 and a lot of tables.
I don't know why I would want either.
Then again, that is besides the point. For the same price I get one pack of FFG SW dice (that has to be shared at the table and, again, does not contain enough dice to make tests in one roll), I could get enough dice sets for myself and every player at my table, which can be used for most other rpgs and also look considerably nicer than the FFG dice and would still have money left over.
Getting started with Star Wars EotE [R]2 years, 6 months agoGenericCabbage posted submission on rpg.

For my girlfriends birthday, my mother bought her Star Wars Edge of the Empire, TMNT Shadows of the Past and Escape from the Aliens in Outer Space.
I was wondering if I should get anything to help craft our games i.e. Something to draw maps, a game master portfolio or more dice. I know I will need to get the core rule book eventually to craft better games for Star Wars EotE.
I would love recommendations for new games to get her and also equipment to better our playing experience. We both have very limited experience with Roleplaying.

More dice are always appreciated, I second this idea. I'm pretty sure FFG are the only makers of these specific dice because they have custom symbols just for the narrative dice system. You can of course use any regular set of dice that has d6, d8, d12 but it is kind of annoying remembering which symbols match which numbers.

After looking for weeks, it appears that FFG finally got a shipment to stores. Maybe now the price gouging will stop. Happy rolling!

Ive never played a sic-fi rig before but would like to, what is a good one that is not overly complex?

I hear this all the time, honestly, rolling those dice is so much better than counting successes on a d6, or aiming for a target number on a d20. It's worth the: what, $12? http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Edge-Empire-Dice/dp/1616616598

[Contest] Tell Me What You Need, the Sequel [R]6 years, 8 months agomostawesomeguy posted submission on Random_Acts_Of_Amazon.

So some time ago (I'm not going to bother to look how long ago; I'm lazy) I did a contest where I asked people to list me an item that they needed. Needed for what? Well, for something. Maybe it's a piece you needed for a project. Maybe it's that last book in a series you're reading. Maybe it's an extra bottle of bubbles for your kid's giant bubble wand.
Well, it's time for that contest to roll around again. So, as I'm sure you've guessed, all you have to tell me is something that you need and why you need it. If you don't tell me why, then your entry doesn't count. If you don't link me to the item, your entry doesn't count. I'm lazy, remember?
- This contest ends today at 10pm CST. On top of lazy, I am also impatient and don't like to run contests that drag on.
- Budget! Try to keep it around $10-15 including shipping. I have Prime.
- On top of lazy and impatient, I am also indecisive. So in case I have trouble picking a winner from what I'm sure will be tons of wonderful items with truly impressive reasons for needing them, include the Reddit Raffle phrase "Chuck Finley".
Ready? Set? Go.
Also if I don't reply to you, don't be offended. I'm having a Netflix marathon and am slightly ADD so it's very likely that I'll gravitate away from the computer. It's nothing personal.
Except to that one person. They know who they are.
