How can I minimize RF interference with my wireless headphones? [R]

1 year, 6 months agotheslyder posted submission on headphones.
Sept. 1, 2018

In most positions I get a pulsating static sound, buzzing, or hisses. It has started to become unbearable and I'm desperate to fix the issue. I was hoping it was electrical interference from something easily solved, but I've unplugged almost everything unnecessary in my room and it didn't help.

I'm using these Sony headphones.

One solution I've seen is to turn down the volume on the headphones, while turning up the volume on my computer, but then everything is at max volume and it isn't loud enough. I've looked for software that would boost the volume or ways to bypass Windows' max volume limit, but I haven't been able to find anything.

If you guys have had any experience with this kind of thing, I would really appreciate the input. Is it even a solvable issue? Would a different pair yield different results or is it my house? I've tried bluetooth earbuds but the volume is way way too low. Is that normal? It's the reason I've been avoiding bluetooth. Well, that and the limited range.

A few things:

  1. Definitely talk in person. Notes or emails are a bad idea. Like others have noted people can read things into that. Much easier if you just explain your case.
  2. Suggest alternatives. I bought wireless headphones for $68 on Amazon that allows me to watch TV & play PS4 in peace. I would seriously print that page off and nicely suggest they get those if they are watching TV or gaming.
  3. Also if the bass is very loud, maybe putting a blanket or towel under it,, especially if on tile or hardwood.

[QUESTION] Is it possible to get rid of latency when using wireless earphones with a guitar interface? [R]

2 years, 8 months agoDestructionSphere posted submission on Guitar.

I've been using a focusrite scarlett solo for a while now and love it. But, I hate getting my headphone cables all entangled with my guitar cable, etc. So I saved up and finally took the plunge on good wireless headphones. To make the focusrite transmit I got a "kitsound bluetooth music adaptor". Sadly the latency is so bad its unusable. Has anyone here managed to get wireless headphones working well with an interface? How did you get rid of latency?

What'd be your budget for new ones?

I use these wireless sony headphones for practicing sometimes. They're not the greatest, but they're passable and fairly cheap. I also have a set of these cheap Sennheisers that I've used a few times, and they worked decently as well (actually they're one model up from those, but they don't make the ones I have anymore).

Actually the Sennheisers are probably a bit better for sound quality, or at least they have a flatter response. The Sonys have a bit too much bass, so they can sound a little odd for playing guitar through (I don't really care too much when I'm practicing though, and I keep my Senns at work usually so I don't get to use them for practicing).

Used mostly for TV watching and gaming? Because that combination (wireless and through the TV) doesn't sound good for music listening.

Sennheiser RS series is the main recommendation - the only current headphone in your price range is the RS 120, which is an open headphone. Something like the RS 165 would be good, but it's about double your budget.

Sony has some as well. The MDRRF985RK is $100, wireless, and closed. Has generally good reviews and meets your main criteria, but I can't tell you what it sounds like (no reputable reviews). If you just need it to watch TV or play games, I bet it's good enough.

Wireless headphones for TV use in this price range use RF. That means potentially fiddling with the frequency slider to get a clear connection, and some people complain about how issues crop up later (presumably as other wireless transmission around you changes).

Wireless headphones for digital piano [R]

Jan. 9, 2017

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a way to play with wireless headphones. My Yamaha piano doesn't support BT so I need to find some kind of a BT transmitter. The one I find on Amazon has a delay between the key press to the tone I hear.

Any suggestions.

The cheap solution is to run the cord behind your head along your back. Clip it to the collar of your shirt if necessary to make sure it doesn't fall forward and get in your way.

Another approach would be to look for a purely analog wireless headphone system. These are lower tech and may have some quality loss over long distances, but the low tech is a saving grace when it comes to latency because basically analog signals don't pass through buffers which delay the sound. These Sony headphones appear to be purely analog.

One more approach would be to use a wireless monitor system, like bands use on stage. These are meant for musical performances, so they should have low enough latency. Shure, Audio Technica, and Sennheiser make such systems. (Look for the term "wireless in-ear monitoring", for example this page on Sweetwater.) These are pro gear, and they won't be cheap. Also, they are not an all-in one unit. It's a receiver pack that you stick on your belt and run a wire to your in-ear monitors.

I have this unit, and while it does not have Bluetooth, wireless headphones that came with a transmitter would work.. like these.

Can anyone ID these Sony headphones? Someone is selling them for $60 CAD. Good deal? [R]

They are similar to my MDR-RF6500
And they are very good. Got mine in 2012 and with heavy use the battery is still good.

I need an alternative to the HyperX Cloud II headset I bought 2 days ago. It's quite nice except that my melon is too big. If it had 2 more clicks on both cups it would be fine.

I know my head isn't too abnormally large as I have a pair of wireless Sony over-the-ears and they extend significantly farther than what I need to be comfortable and at least twice as far as the Clouds IIs.

Budget: $100 or less preferred.

Location: US

Source: PC.

Requirements for Isolation: Don't care.

Preferred tonal balance: I don't know what this means. i.e. Don't care.

Past headphones:I've been using these Sonys for the past 2 years.

Preferred Music: Gunfire and explosions and whatever game theme music.

My Reqs: Price range is $100 or less, wired, mic, 7.1 surround, same sound quality as the Cloud II if possible.

Woodworking headphones/ear protection? [R]

Right now I don't have any ear plugs or any ear protection at all when I am working, so I guess that it is time for me to get one. Can anyone recommend me Bluetooth headphones that I can use for both protecting my ears and music?

First off, that's a horrible price:

Second, I'd look for digital wireless headphones. Straight RF is going to have a lot of undesirable side effects -- think about how a radio sounds when you put a cell phone down next to it. Digital is either connected or it's not; degraded signal != degraded audio.

Sennheiser has been mentioned already, and they're digital. They have a wide range of products/price points. You can find something that he'll like, I'm sure.

Does anybody know what kind of headphones these are? S01E08 [R]

This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post. Examples of questions:

  • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
  • I'm thinking of getting a GTX 770. Which one should I get?
  • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case < $50

Remember that IRC is a great place to ask quick questions as well:

I'm thinking of getting a wireless pair of headphones like this Sony set:

This would obviously require a desktop microphone of some sort. I'm not going to use a modmic, because that would defeat the purpose of having wireless. I was thinking about something like the Blue Snowball:

Can anyone with this microphone comment on the range while keeping a clear sound? I would like to be able to set it back and to the side, while still having room to lean forward or back at my desk, and have people hear me clearly. I will only be using it for communications, no casting or recording.

You can the little button embedded on the bottom front of the right ear cup, thats the "auto tuning" button to connect to the base unit.

At that point, you'd be better off with a pair of RF headphones and a transmitter. I am not aware of any bluetooth bridges that work in this manner, as they would need to contain a DAC as well.

Something along the lines of this would allow you to take stereo RCA from your TV and send it wirelessly to the headphones.
