I bought one of these when the iPhone 5 came out and have been using it since and love it.

I feel sorry for you peeps that still need 3.5mm headphone jacks, but I was a pretty early adopter of Bluetooth headphones anyways. I have four of these adapters from the phones I've bought and have literally never used a single one of them. Wouldn't know if they even work :P

How good is the Bluetooth (HFL) on 3G TL's? [R]

I recently bought an '07 Type-S and it seems like the HFL went bad. After some searching, I learned that this happens to just about everyone. The HFL says it's booting up and the surface is warm to the touch when the car is off. I've already unplugged the module. A replacement will run about $300 (including $50 core charge). I'm wondering if it's worth replacing. How well does it work? Does it do a good job at understanding commands? Do people have trouble hearing you on the other end of a call? Is it worth it? Any other issues (other than no audio streaming)? Thanks all in advance for your feedback.

I've had my TL-S for almost two years and probably used the HFL <10 times. The cost of replacing the box depends on how much you use the phone in the car.

I found a great option for audio that I use everyday.

Why don't mobile companies realize we don't want your fucking phone if you have removed 3.5mm jack.?? [R]

I'm pretty unhappy that they killed the 3.5mm headphone jack, but it is what it is. I don't plan on buying an iPhone 7, I'll stick with my 6+.

As for the car listening/charging situation, I have a solution for you. Get a Bluetooth to auxiliary adapter. I've got this one and it's worked great for the past two years:

Looking for suggestions on listening to my iphone 6S in my car via the Aux port and being able to charge at the same time? [R]

Sadly, no bluetooth here. I've been using this and this to have a single cable running down the dash to the aux port on the head unit in my car. The cable is starting to go (from a few years of use) and I'm wondering if there is anything a little more elegant or simple that I may be missing. Thanks.

I use this and I love it so far. Gives you Bluetooth and with the extra USB you can charge at the same time from the same plug.

How I solved the small problem of no headphone jack with only $15. [R]

My car I have put in a stereo with Bluetooth so it's not a problem, but at work what I drive only has Aux soooo I was happy to hear about the adapter that comes in the box but I ran into the problem of charging and playing music simultaneously so I found on Amazon a Bluetooth adapter that you plug in a Aux port and connects to you phone so now you can play music through your cars aux port and charge your phone for only $15.

Normally I would not recommend these for car installations because they need to be charged and all of them I have used do not work while charging. Meaning you can't have a "permenant" installation because you would need to disconnect it from power before the unit will actually kick on.

But if you move in to and out of cars for work purposes then this will be really handy.

If you want a more permenant setup that uses Bluetooth, I have this and it works great:

Griffin also makes a similar one:

If you'd prefer to have the lightning cable take care of the audio transmission, then preorder this one:

Aux cord jack install recommendations in Indy? [R]

4 years, 3 months agoNeiliobob posted submission on indianapolis.
July 28, 2015

Hey all. I have a 2006 Mazda 3, and I would like to get an aux cord jack (for use with cell phones/MP3's, etc) through the car audio system. I called Auto Appeal and they wanted $250 and Geek Squad wanted $175. I feel like there is a place where I could get a better deal than these. Does anyone have any recommendations for quality & relatively inexpensive places who can do this for me? Thanks!

What I used to do was buy one of the kits and then customize it. Some shaving here and there, paint to match the interior or something else if wanted, and some foam to make it more solid and snug.

An actual hand made custom enclosure can be done but it's usually way out of peoples price range.

He could always just go this route if he's got bluetooth devices.

I use this:

It's more expensive but doesn't require any batteries. I love using BT->AUX adapters because I don't have to plug anything in when I get into the car. My phone auto connects and I could configure it to start playing automatically. I have it configured to stop playing audio when BT disconnects (when I turn off my car).
