Best brush for full coverage using a loose mineral powder foundation? [R]

1 year, 11 months agoweird_weekend posted submission on MakeupAddiction.

I use this Loreal mineral powder foundation. I've had the same brush for god knows how long, and I'm ready for a new one! Also in need of a new blush brush (I don't really do contouring) and basically a small version of the foundation brush to add a little extra coverage to my acne spots. Any recommendations?

Oh! I should have read your product list more closely. Yes, fuller lashes will look awesome. If you get a powder blush, I'd recommend this brush or a brush like it: It's fluffy and well shaped, so I can get blush placed how I want it and then build up to the coverage I like without it looking like too much.

I feel the same way, and I believe too little blush is much better than too much. That said, I think the color you have on works well, I would just use more. Also, I couldn't get the kind of blush application I wanted until I started using this brush: Maybe a brush like that will make you feel more comfortable with blush? Best of luck to you. You already look great.

Can someone recommend a good blush brush? [R]

Currently I am using the Real Techniques blush brush, but it really hasn't been cutting it and I'm looking to replace it. I can't seem to find any reviews of highly rated blush brushes, so I'm hoping someone here might have a recommendation. I'd like to keep it under $20, but I can go higher if it's worth it.

Edit: I couldn't decide between flairing this as a discussion or under advice, I hope this is okay.

What's your favorite blush brush, and how do you apply blush? [R]

I currently use the ELF Studio Blush Brush, but I feel like it isn't the right tool for me. I have trouble applying and blending my blush. It always looks patchy, blotchy, and sort of dark/obvious, even when I think I'm using a light hand. Am I using the wrong technique? The wrong tools? I want to look ethereal and warm, instead of like I've got sun damage.

Sounds like the brush isn't blending the powder very well.

I'm fond of the Real Techniques blush brush. It picks up a good amount of products and lays it down evenly. My issue with this guy is that he doesn't blend as well as some others because he's pretty soft so I found myself applying the blush and then reaching for another to finish the job. But if you're light handed to begin with, he's a cool little dude.

Sephora's Full Coverage Airbrush is my favorite right now for blush. I originally got him for blending out my bb cream but I like him a lot better with powder than liquid. It blends powders out so nicely. My only issue is that he's surprisingly small. I wish the handle were longer.

I just got these brandless brushes off Amazon on Saturday. So far the angled kabuki is really nice for blending powders as well. I like it almost as much as the Sephora one to be honest. The only reason why it falls a little behind is I prefer the slimmer shape of Sephora's a bit more.

Another Sephora brush is their Pro Visionary Face Blender. The shape is pretty funky but the curve of it hugs your face. I like this, but I prefer to use it for contour more than blush. I'm just adding it in as an option because the thinness of it lets you get pretty precise placement of the powder which is useful.

[Contest] Was your dog separated at birth? [R]

I work at an emergency kennel that sees abuse cases and thrown away dogs every single day. It can be very sad work, but it can also be extremely rewarding. For all the difficulties, it seems like there are joyful outcomes in equal number. However, today was one of the huge bummer days for a multitude of reasons and I could use a pick-me-up and this is it! I love picking out what celebs our dogs look like. Here is my basset Darlene who looks like Richard Belzer:

  • create a "separated at birth" picture of your pet and a celeb look alike and post a link here
  • also link to an item on your list that is up to $12 with shipping

Yes!! My dog was most definitely separated at birth from Winston Churchill

Oh! And my dogs are also separated from Shari Lewis, the Lambchop Ventriloquist. Just look at how well they are making Lambchop act!

Edit: Thanks to everyone who entered! This contest is now closed, and you can see the winner in a separate post I made earlier today!

I was freaking out a little today and yesterday, since I couldn't find my makeup bag. I was adding up what it would cost to replace everything from it that I really liked. I had my friend check her car to make sure I didn't drop it there. Then I noticed today that it had somehow fallen out onto the living room chair that was the same exact color as the bag. Crisis averted!

In honor of not having to replace a bunch of daily use items, I'm holding a small contest.

  • Tell me an item that you would be devastated to lose (makeup or otherwise) and put the redditraffle word DarkBlue.
  • Link me to a wishlist item that is under (or within a dollar of) 15 USD with shipping.
  • I will choose a winner on Dec. 31st

Congratulations! Huzzah for you :P

I was interning for the IT department of a company and I had accidentally disabled the web application that allowed the company to receive faxes shortly before I left for the day. In the next daily meeting they were talking about the problems with the web application and explaining what had gone wrong when I realized it was my fault! I was super scared but I confessed... My boss joked that I would be fired effective Monday, which was the planned last day of my internship anyway! Totally went better than I thought it would.

Item: RT Blush Brush. It's an add-on item but there are other sellers that offer it for $10.95 with free shipping.

Thanks for hosting :)

Cleaning up, or: why /u/dutchesse hates American football

I worked as a housekeeper for a local college one summer of college. It paid crappily, but it was easy work. I mostly cleaned windows of the campus buildings, but for a few weeks, we have a major NFL team stay on campus so we mostly cleaned the rooms, etc.

It was typical for the players to leave water bottles full of urine around the room. They also liked to have a lot of other things, like wads of tissues, candy bars, etc.--whatever, to be expected.

What I did not expect was that one day, we'd walk into a room and be slapped across the sinuses with a putrid, wretched stank. This was not a stank to be taken lightly: it was the smell of congealed bananas, rotten soybean paste, and three day old roadkill. It was fucking horrid. One of my coworkers gagged, another puked. My eyes were watering and I had wondered what I had done to deserve that kind of punishment, because jesus christ, that smell should be a war crime.

We had been there less than 24 hours ago and we didn't sense anything then--so we knew whatever it was, it was fresh. We searched high and low: no deuce in the toilet, nothing in the shower, nothing offensive in the trash. Nothing in plain sight. We were hesitant for a few minutes before we decided to just came in to do what we needed to and move the fuck on (we also decided we'd let the room air out and keep the door open). We began to move the sheets off the bed when another gust hit us, and there it was--

It was a messy, gigantic pile of shit. It was like a pond of sewage, just there on the bed. You know, the bed that undergraduates use to sleep on. It was a trainwreck: it had destroyed the sheets and the bed. We have no idea what this guy did or must have ate to have created what happened there that day, but all we know was that we were woefully unprepared for getting rid of that biohazardous material.

The player responsible for this atrocity is still playing in the NFL, to my recollection. I won't out him, but my god, I hope he feels somewhat guilty. I'm sure the gut rot was something fierce, but leaving us with that was a major party foul.

Huzzah for him, I guess.

[Contest] Goals for Yourself! [R]

June 27, 2013

Hello everyone! I just finished my first year of college and my birthday is coming up, so I thought, what better way to celebrate than to give to the community?

To win, post a goal that you have set out for yourself, whether it be a long-term goal, or a short-term goal, and tell me how your progress is coming along in accomplishing that goal!

Secondly, choose a number between 1-1000.

Lastly, link me to an item on your wish-list (preferably around $5-$10. I wish I could spend more, but perhaps when I'm not a student and/or have better than a minimum-wage job!)

I will randomly choose 3 winners on July 1st!

For me, my goal is to be the best person I can be, by smiling more often and greeting people, and asking them how their day is going. A simple smile can really go a long way!

Good luck, and I'm looking forward to reading your responses :)

EDIT - Thanks for all your responses! The winning number is 479. Congratulations to /u/sunchops, /u/HRRB, and /u/brionic76! I'll be sure to host another contest in the future, as I was very edified by all of your responses and have become more motivated to accomplish my goal. I hope all of you feel the same!

We have bee trying in baby number 2 for 3 years now and it's really hard. For the past year my life has been this never ending cycle of, period, ovulation, two week wait, and do it over. And it's shit. I haven't accomplished anything.

So my goal is to push my infertility to the side and work on myself. I've been working in my Heath and have lost 15 pounds since September, it doesn't seem like much, but it took me some work!

I'd like This makeup brush makes me feel good about myself even if my uterus is a bitch.
