Type cover alternatives? [R]

2 days, 5 hours agovikto000 posted submission on Surface.

Really like my SP6, and the versatility of having the keyboard within the cover. But I don't like the feel of the keyboard. I'm not able to type as fast with it. Any alternative type-covers with a more responsive keyboard?

(I recognize keyboard preferences are very personal; it's ok if you disagree with me)

Dont think you will find any with lower latency then the type cover. Your other options is Bluetooth, wireless with USB or keyboard with USB cable. If you want bluetooth i recommend https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-WS2-00025-Surface-Keyboard/dp/B01MQ0SB7Z/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=microsoft+keyboard&qid=1558022734&s=gateway&sr=8-4 , if you want cable keyboard i would go with a mechanical gaming keyboard like https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Ornata-Chroma-Mecha-Membrane-Individually/dp/B01LVTI3TO/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=razer+keyboard&qid=1558022782&s=gateway&sr=8-5 . You wont find another that connects to the computer with pogo pins though that i know off.

I have an imac for writing in my office, and the most clickety keyboard known to humans: https://www.amazon.com/Razer-Ornata-Chroma-Mecha-Membrane-Individually/dp/B01LVTI3TO

A desktop computer with a separate keyboard will generally be better for your neck and wrists than a laptop. You can position the monitor at the right height (you aren't looking down, straining your poor neck muscles), and the keyboard can be at the right level without you straining your wrists.

And I have an inexpensive Chromebook (less than $200!) for writing on the go, which I don't do often.

Yeah, I bought a 6ft Thunderbolt 3 cable, I had to make sure the cable had 100watt power deliver and 40gbps so it can charge and have the most bandwidth to minimize latency.

Yes mid-height, this is the one I bought Razer Ornata Chroma: Mecha-Membrane - Individually Backlit Mid-Height Keys - Leatherette Wrist Rest - Gaming Keyboard https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LVTI3TO/ref=cmswrcpapi_IMPLBbDMGFHEQ

Looking to upgrade my PC for gaming. Budget $500-$600 [R]

8 months, 2 weeks agoscruff_and_stuff posted submission on buildapcforme.

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.

  • I will be using it for internet browsing, Netflix/streaming, Adobe CC (PS, Audition, Premier Pro), and gaming (specifically Skyrim at the moment).

What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?

  • Ideally $500 to $600. I don't want to go higher, but I'm a realist and if what I'm looking for can't be done in that price range, I'll consider spending more.

When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.

  • Within the next week or two.

What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (Tower/OS/monitor/keyboard/mouse/etc)

  • Graphics card, CPU, motherboard, cooler (if necessary), RAM, and power supply.

Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?

  • Oregon, USA. I don't know what a Microcenter is.

If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.

  • Asus brand monitor, Razer Ornata Chroma keyboard, generic Microsoft mouse, SSD and a couple HDDs (I don't remember what brands), and a Corsair case.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?

  • No. I'm content to remain a plebeian and let it run as it will.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)

  • Not particularly. Anything modern is going to be better than the dated rig I'm currently using.

Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-tower/full-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?

  • I'd like to use the same Corsair case I currently have. However, it isn't a hill I'm willing to die on. I'll get a different one if I must.

Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

  • No. I have a digital license that I'll activate on the new build.

Extra info or particulars:

  • I really appreciate any suggestions that fit within my budget. I'm new to building PCs and am excited to continue researching and learning!

The Razer Ornata Chroma.

I know it's not true mechanical, which really sucks. But I got it for the cohesiveness of the LED lighting and the really comfortable wrist pad due to some wrist issues I have.

What's the general consensus for the best board around $150 and under? [R]

Theres a lot of different kinds but this is generally considered the best decent keyboard at the lowest price point. High quality membrane switches, good rgb lighting, and great build quality.

Above 200$ and you get diminishing returns, below 100$ and you get low quality. The Razer Ornata Chroma is the one you want.

Rate :) [R]

Razer Ornata, It's an amazing keyboard despite it being a mechamembrane. It gets hate because it's a membrane but I personally love the feel of it and the lighting is so perfect. That wrist rest is heaven, best one i've ever used.

The Expert is on a really good sale right now and I would like to finally get a new keyboard. But what is the main difference between the Expert and the Chroma. Are they such drawbacks that I shouldn't get the Expert when it's on sale?

This is what I am thinking of ordering.

Switching to Mechanical. Need some advise/opinions [R]

So, I have never had a mechanical keyboard and I am starting to want one more and more. I like Razer but their keyboards are a little higher than I am willing to consider right now.

I see a lot of 30-50 dollar mechanical keyboards on Amazon though none of them are a brand I know but I may consider them just to get a feel as I've never had a mechanical keyboard.

Basically, can any of you suggest a solid mechanical keyboard that won't make my wallet cry.

That thing is tiny! I actually purchased a keyboard already though. I like the idea of mechanical, I just need it to be quieter. Hopefully this is a solid compromise! Thanks for the recommendation though. I think having a keyboard like the Qisan would be pretty cool though. Small and what not. I would just miss the num pad lol

Ah ok. I actually found the Razer Ornata. I saw it a while ago but was fine with my current keyboard.

I like the Chroma aspect of it and I think it's a good middle ground. A lot of people seem to enjoy it.

I really like the way this Red Dragon looks and for $24 bucks its hard to complain. But a lot of reviews regretted buying so I will pass.

If anyone knows of a similar looking keyboard, that isnt too expensive, please let me know, thanks!

The Razor Ornata Croma may be a good choice depending on how low-profile you want to go.

The keys look like they're floating over the LED's and it has great reviews. I'm about to purchase one myself.

Tried doing some research but can't find anything. Does the razer keyboard integrate with the gameplay like logitech keyboards do? You know like flash or change colors when things are happening in game. Thank you for any info. I have a logitech g810 and was thinking of switching.

No problem man. If you do get it its a great keyboard, its not fully mechanical, but its like a membrane/mechanical style. I love it and its the shit. If you decided to save a bit of cash and want the keyboard still, the normal Ornata is on sale for 89.99

Its a great keyboard man. for the price, the RGB is great, and I love this thing man.

What Mechanical Keyboard do you use? [R]

We are close to getting the Multi-keyboard support ready for the live build, but the last remaining hurdle is how mechanical keyboards tend to get around the ghosting problem. Generally speaking, they create a second virtual keyboard, and in our system, it gets confused because it doesn't know these are related. We came up with a couple "pairing" solutions during BCX, but we want to figure out how to make that less problematic.

Now, here is how you can help us. Post a link to the amazon order of the mechanical keyboard you use. We will buy a handful and get this issue sorted.

I enjoy my Razer. I understand the hate, but I thoroughly enjoy mine. I have the Razer Oranata Mecha-Membrance Chroma although my boyfriend ordered the Razer Ornata Mecha-Membrane Expert from Amazon.... (Thanks Amazon - I wanted the Chroma over the Expert anyway. :X Merry Christmas to me!)

It's a very comfortable keyboard. I play a lot of FPS or open work games and never have issues of keys not responding. My boyfriend is not use to how clicky it is, so he complains a little about the sound but... I'm very happy with it. Only had 1 issue - which was my own fault! (I was playing with functions and made my A key a macro on accident for... who knows what!) I also have this Razer mouse he also got me.

Hello. First upgrade from membrane keyboard to the model named above. I find it really hard that if i don't push the keys down to the very bottom and release it a tiny bit (still beyond the click) it just stops registering the input. Its really annoying and i struggle when playing FPS which requires constant and long single key push (R6 Siege; DayZ etc). So i would like to ask if this is normal for mechanical keyboards or its only this keyboard's con.
