This thread is for simple style questions that you may have, especially those that don't warrant their own thread. We all want a diversified opinion, so feel free to answer any questions (of which you know the answer).

Example questions: What are your favorite black boots <$250? What should I wear on a date? Are there any good white t-shirts?

This thread is for simple style questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Fit checks and "How'd I do" questions are a great use of this thread (although they can also go in the daily Outfit Feedback & Fit Check thread). Other example questions:

  • Could someone take the chest measurement for a small J.Crew oxford?
  • Is there a place with full measurements for Naked & Famous jeans?
  • What slim-fitting green cords do you recommend?
  • Where do I find a military surplus peacoat online?
  • If you're asking for suggestions for a specific kind of clothing/accessory, state what your budget is.

Important: Downvotes are strongly discouraged in this thread. Sorting by new is strongly encouraged.

I want to buy a pair of boots that won't let my feet get wet, look cool, last a long time, and not cost an arm and a leg.

I would really appreciate it if any of you could point me in the right direction!

Flats that won't dig up my heels? [R]

3 years agosarowen posted submission on femalefashionadvice.
July 24, 2016

Everytime I buy flats I wander around them in the store for a while and they feel comfy, like the fit, but inevitably after wearing them to an event, they'll dig into my heel leaving a lovely blister or red mark. I get measure every time and I'm an 8. I tried going up to an 8.5 and the shoes kept slipping off.

What should I look for in shoes to avoid this?

Seconding this! I really like [Pedag's Padded Leather Heel Grips] (https://www.amazon.com/Pedag-Stop-Padded-Leather-Grips/dp/B004BD71JK/ref=sr11ait?ie=UTF8&qid=1469463023&sr=8-1&keywords=pedag+heel+insert). They also help out when your flats are just a little bit too small (to keep them from slipping).

Romaloes (again...I know): Do your toes touch the tip of the toebox? Are they too big, because my heels slip. [R]

3 years, 2 months agoKrvnik posted submission on weightlifting.
May 22, 2016

Hey everyone,

sorry for yet another shoe thread. Romaleos are tough to get, where I live. I ordered a pair of US-10 (EU-44), which were way too big, so I had to return them. The whole returning process took around two month, due to inavailability at vendors.

This is also the reason why I'm writing you for some sizing-guidance, as I fear that yet another exchange would take as long.

I just received the US-9.5 (EU-43) that I exchanged them for, but my heels are still slipping out of the shoe, when I try to walk for example.

I wonder how close my toes should be to the tip of the toebox? Right now I can clearly feel the front/side of the toebox with my little toe, but in the front – from my big toes to the tip – there is almost one thumbwidth of space.

Is this too much space, which causes my entire foot to move inside of the shoe, which in turn is causing my heel to slip?

I'm not sure if I should go down to US-9 (EU-42.5). I'm just fearing that those won't fit at all.

The problem is that there are no stores around where I could try different sizes and I can't use the ones I just received in actual training.

Also I'm not sure how much they will widen, once they are worn in.

What's your take on it?

Thanks a lot in advance.

May 23, 2016

I'm size 10 US in Nike Free Run 5.0, and my Romaleos are size 9 US. My toes are touching the toebox, my foot is 27.5 cm long, while Romaleos 9 US are 27 cm, but my heel still slip a little bit. I have narrow foot, and these heel grips solved that problem.

You can try adding heel grips. I like Pedag Padded Leather Heel Grips. I've applied them to all of my work flats/heels because my feet are also different sizes. None of them are even close to being as expensive as Salvatore Ferragamo flats though. The adhesive is really strong so be careful during application if you go this route.

They do feel snug at first but after wear, they'll mold to your feet a bit more.. though I wouldn't say they ever really stretch out. I can't even fit a full finger behind my heel if I scoot my feet forward, but my heels also kept slipping at first (combination of stiff leather + narrow heels, I guess) so I stuck these heel liners on and it's been fine ever since. I have the original Weejuns and I ordered my normal size, for reference.. the different styles tend to fit slightly differently, I think, even if they look almost indiscernible.

I've got a pair of AOs that I love to wear but I always have to wear no-show socks to keep them from slipping off a bit. The no-shows still show a tiny bit and they're kind of annoying if I'm gonna be taking my shoes off in a beach setting so is there another way to prevent the heel slippage?

How to prevent shoes from scraping back of the foot? [R]

4 years, 6 months agoJan. 23, 2015

When I wear ballet flat type shoes, a lot of the time it will scrape the back of my foot when I walk, leading to quite painful sores/cuts like this. Is there something I can do so this doesn't happen?

Also, is this a common thing? Recently every shoe I have bought in this style seems to cut at the skin. It's depressing because I really do love this style and, besides the scraping, it really is comfortable to wear.

Edit: By "ballet flat" I really mean just a pair of flats.

I buy flats half a size bigger, and then I put in insoles and these things. I used to always have problems even with higher quality flats, but this has solved it.

I wrote this on another post last week:

I discovered these heel grips recently and they're AMAZING. It is almost impossible for me to find flats/heels that fit both feet perfectly because my left foot is a tiny bit smaller than my right. My left foot used to slip out pretty frequently. I've stuck the grips on two pairs of heels and they fit great now. The suede feels really nice and the adhesive is strong. I recommend purchasing them if you have problems with shoe sizing.

I've got almost those exact shoes except mine are from 2 /12 years ago and have a full leather sole. They've held up well and work really well for business casual with jeans and going out after work without feeling like you're too formal. The one caveat is that they were really really harsh for me to break-in. I had the worst blisters I've ever had from them and could barely walk. I ended up having to get heel liners in order to stop the blisters. Once they broke in they were wonderful though.

I got new shoes and the heel is too big! What do I do?! [R]

I got these amazing shoes in the mail today, and while the fronts fit great, the heel is really wide for my foot! My heel just slips right out as a walk, but the rest of the shoe fits perfectly.

I've tried those gel heel inserts (not heel cups) before and they never seem to stick. I'm pretty crafty and was thinking about maybe sewing something in to make them fit better?

Does anyone have any suggestions? I love these shoes :(

Have you tried these particular inserts? http://www.amazon.com/Pedag-Stop-Padded-Leather-Grips/dp/B004BD71JK

I find that they seem to be pretty much permanently attached to the shoe. The adhesive is extremely strong, they don't fall out.
