This is the one I use now. Most reliable camera I've owned and quite inexpensive. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DLWBPCA?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

$60 for this dashcam got me one with the best manual for a product I've ever seen. This is in comparison with another brand I was using before this one, in which all four dashcams I purchased (each $100) failed within a year. My favourite feature of this dashcam is that it supports data transfer without having to take the SD card out by way of USB cable, which is incredibly convenient and should prolong the life of the card.

Looking for a cheap dash cam that survives Texas heat. [R]

Looking to spend $30-70ish on a dash cam that will survive the Texas heat. Recommendations for the brand and model are appreciated, alongside how long you have had it without issue.

My fear is that the glue (if any) will begin to separate or simply put, the hardware will fail.

I use this bad boy right here. I've had it for well over a year, and it's gotten to the point where it would burn my skin after sitting in the car and it still works perfectly. It has "night vision" which is straight up a lie, it's a tiny LED that shines forward. It does do 1080P, and 720P, and the captures look great. It has accident detection, a parking guard that will record for 10 seconds if any motion is detected, and a low light mode (which actually works really well) that it automatically switches to in low light situations. Cyclic recording so you can just let it run and never worry about it. It also powers off when the car powers off. The whole shebang.

Mine came with a 32GB Micro SD Card when I bought it, along with a Micro SD to USB reader to pull videos. Not sure if this one does, but if it does it's a great deal for $70.

Just a PSA. Don't mess with other people's cars on campus or at their apartment complex. Just don't do it. Have some respect for the people around you. [R]

I got this Old Shark for roughly $62. Very high quality. Those people that spend $$$ on a dash cam don't realize they're just buying for the brand by that point and flashy perks that quite honestly you can find in smaller companies without digging a bigger whole in your pocket.

I've had good luck with this one, although I got it at $50. Very simple, it just works. I've had it in use for about 6 hours a day for a year now. I recommend that you take the time to run the power wire behind your headliner rather than just have the cord dangling all the time.

Question about insurance following an accident (CA) [R]

2 years, 4 months agoTerrorSuspect posted submission on Insurance.

I was in an accident in Los Angeles about 3 months ago. I was making a right turn off an exit in the left lane. The street we were turning onto was a two lane road. The left lane could turn left, right, or go straight, with the right lane being right turn only. When I was making the turn, a van tried to switch lanes in the intersection and hit my right door.

I only have liability insurance. He was driving a company van that was insured. My car took most of the damage. There were no witnesses that stopped or anything. We called the CHP, but they said as it happened in the intersection after the exit, it was out of their jurisdiction. And the LAPD only comes out if there's city damage or someone is hurt, neither of which happened. So no police report.

When everything was said and done with insurance companies, both my company and theirs said it was word v. word, and each took their client's side. My company isn't paying his, he's not paying mine. The other driver told his company and mine that I tried to drive into his lane. (in reality, right after the accident, he asked why I didn't go straight, because I don't think he realized that I could turn right.) When I was denied by the other company, I appealed it to the agent's supervisor, but he upheld the denial.

My question is basically this: am I just SOL here? Like, I was just driving to work and this guy drove into my car. And now I'm just screwed? Is there anything I can do? Or is this just a lesson in insurance sucking not always being the most helpful?

I was shopping for an affordable dash cam for my father last year, this one came highly recommend online and so far has been great, the video quality is surprisingly good for the price, even at night. I plan on getting one for me and my wife are well. I used my dad as our test bench lol.

Boston guys - what do you want for Xmas? [R]

I’m struggling to think of a good gift for my brother, who is a very stereotypical Boston guy, so wanted to see if any similar guys had any ideas or suggestions based on what they want this year or good gifts they’ve received in the past. To go into more detail, my brother loves the Sox/Pats (has the tattoos to prove it), is in his mid-20’s, drives a truck, has a blue collar job, doesn’t care for craft beer but can put away Bud Light like nobody’s business, loves Kelly’s Roast Beef, is half Irish, etc. Just very Boston.
The problem is that he doesn’t like gift cards and buys himself a lot of the obvious stuff like sports tickets, concert tickets, tools, etc. I’d like to spend around $100 or so. Any ideas? Tech gifts are great, experience-type gifts are great, and I’m open to any other suggestions!
Edit: An expected amount of shitpost suggestions, but also some really thoughtful ones - thanks for those! Unfortunately, my brother isn't a knife guy and his truck isn't actually a big part of his identity (I think I was misleading when I mentioned it). If you can think of any other good Boston guy gifts for around $100 I'd love to hear your ideas! I've been trying hard but coming up empty. Thanks, Boston!

I would recommend this one for $70 based on personal experience. It's not fun to have to remember to recharge a battery, this one is constantly powered and looks clean if you run the wire behind interior panels.

Gold?! Really?! Tyvm.

Also I was just approached through reddit by someone claiming to be a producer for abc13. I expressed I didn't want identities or the school exsposed...but should I be wary or trolls in this sub?) so many edits. As of right now I have received no email from any reporter)

edit#> 9000: I'm about to get of work and I still have not had any contact with this reporter from abc13. Guess the story got dropped. Slightly relieved. )

I'm not sure where to post this. And i usually stick to more general groups then locations but this is my home town.

Houston is my life blood and there are people out to taint it.

I'll keep this short.

Last night i happened upon a girl who was being coaxed into an suv. As i drove by the guy tried to shield his actions by blocking her with his car so i couldn't see her. I rolled slowly by because thus was in my neighborhood and I try to be a good neighbor. What i saw i didn't understand until it was over.

I saw a girl, with a backpack. It was raining and cold. She was walking home from the nearby highschool. Something g didn't feel right so i rolled down my window and asked her if he had just dropped her off. She told me no, in fact he had followed her and repetedly tried to get her to get into his vehicle and even offered her money.

At this point i saw him backing up and i pulled my suv between her and him and he realized i wasn't just a passerby. He took off and ran a stop sign.

I offered to follow her home or give her a ride. I'm a mid 20 something female and she accepted the offer of a ride. I took her home and walked her inside. Her parents weren't home but i told her brother what happened and then i left.

i got home and it hit me. This girl had been i danger and i accidently came upon her in a very vunerable time. This man was dangerous so i called the non emergency police number.

The number routed me to crime stoppers which was disconnected so i ended up calling 911. After a couple hours. Multiple statements and descriptions i felt like it was a lost cause because i wasn't able to get his plates.

Then i realized, this girl was alone and scared and helping her was good enough for me.

Although when i got in contact with her mother after she came home made my heart melt. She was so thankful as i think any loving mother would be. I'm happy i could do a service to someone that needed help.

So please, be a good neighbor. You might save a life. This city is OUR life blood. Our communities. Our families. Stay safe, stay aware, stay dry.

(I'm going to make an edit here, no its not for the many typos.) ( she initially was scared to make a report because her mother would "get in trouble" redacted Please don't fear the police when you are victimized. Evil people count on the fact that others are afraid of the police, it only strengthens the resolve of people bent on causing harm) (Crafted on mobile. I dont know where to put this and maybe it will help people be more aware and willing to do what's right in the face of depravity.)

tl; dr Girl (16) walking home is stalked and coaxed and then blocked by a guy trying to get her into his car. My spidey senses tingling i made sure she got home safe and was rewarded with akind mothers love for her children.

I have this one. It runs off a cigarette lighter plug. I just wired the plug into my fusebox so that I wasn't tying up a lighter port. If plugged into a ingition source (ie one that is only on when the car is on) the camera turns on and off with the car. There is a battery so you can take the camera out of the car and snap photos or video. It auto deletes footage so as you drive with nothing happening the older footage gets written over. There is a g sensor that will lock the footage on impact to prevent deleting important footage or you can press a button and lock the footage.
