If you are just wanting a cheap phone to track activities, you could get a Moto G. The 2nd generation is $149 on Amazon and the 3rd generation is $179.

I checked ebay and it looks like the 2nd goes for $114ish used, and the 3rd goes around $150 used.

So I have an Iphone as my daily phone. Every 2 years when I am due for upgrade and a new iphone comes out I sell my current one to help pay for the next.

This requires getting rid of the iphone a few months prior to release, other wise the market is flooded with people that have the same Idea as me and the price I can get for the phone drops alot.

In the meantime I am stuck with an OLD non smart phone ( Samsung upstage) which at this point is basically not usable in today's day and age.

I know alot of you use old android phones for various beer money applications, can someone point me in the direction of a VERY cheap android phone for sprint that I can buy without a new contract or any of that stuff....that way I have at least a somewhat capable phone while I wait for the new iphone?

Why not just jump ship and get a decent Anrdoid device? Saves you lots of money in the long run.

Reboot loop! [R]

Hello, my moto g 2 crashed and now it won't turn on. I plugged it in and it won't show that it's charging. I help the volume button down and got the reboot screen to pop up (and it said the battery was good not low) and now it keeps on flashing the reboot screen, but never actually turning on.... what should I do?

I can get to the screen where it asks for factory reboot normal reboot etc... but they dont seem to work...

Looking to replace my Galaxy S3 LTE. Suggestions? [R]

I was thinking about selling my S3 Lte and was wondering if you guys would have any suggestions for something better in the price range of $250(I think I might be able to sell it around that price) ? Not new, even a used one, can I find anything better? I am quite happy with it, though, but if I could get something better I wouldn't mind.

Are you looking for something on-contract or off-contract?

If you're looking for something off-contract, there is nothing better than a Moto G for under $250.

Will YNAB App work on Amazon Fire Phone? [R]

5 years, 3 months agomr_negativity posted submission on ynab.
Dec. 9, 2014

I'm considering getting a new phone. The Amazon Fire Phone is apparently on sale for ~$200, so I am considering buying it. I understand that it is "android based." Will I be able to use YNAB on this phone?

I've been rocking the Galaxy S2 for a while, but it's finally starting to act a little weird, and might be dying.

YNAB is pretty much the only app I use, besides google maps, the web browser, and a couple other ones. I think I would honestly be fine with a really crappy phone, as long as YNAB works on it.

Figured the folks in this subreddit might have already figured out the answer to this. Thanks!

edit: found a typo.

Do not buy that phone, get yourself a Motorola G, amazon had the latest version up for sale for $150.

If ynab isn't on the amazon appstore, you'll have to side load it. I think it would be better for you to get another phone...

Edit: it looks like it's back to the original price ($179), Motorola Moto G (2nd generation) - Global GSM - Unlocked - 8GB Black by Motorola

I think either the global or US version should work here but double check that!

Trying to find a new smartphone I can use on Ting for a decent price. This site is claiming Target will sell the S5 for $150 (no contract) but I haven't seen this anywhere else. Not sure if it's credible.

I think it is VERY unlikely that the S5 will sell without a contract for $150. That must be contract, and not unlocked. I would reccomend the moto g.

Best Way To Buy an Htc m7 for TMobile? [R]

5 years, 5 months agoniftydl posted submission on tmobile.
Oct. 17, 2014

My dad is signing up for a family plan with me on TMobile, and I mentioned the Htc m7 with it's front facing speakers as he prefers to use the speakerphone on his existing cell phone (to the chagrin of some of us talking to him). He wants a smaller phone, the m8 is to big.

I've read people saying that the m7 initially had quality control issues with a huge host of issues - circuit board problems, camera with a strong color tint. So buying used can be rather risky.

The options I see right now are:

  1. Buy a used phone through Glyde. They have a 72 hour return policy on everything, so I could do the research to track down all the problems and test out the phone for them when I got it.

  2. Best Buy is somehow selling brand new m7's - for Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T (but not TMobile). But could I buy the AT&T version there and use it on TMobile? Apparently the AT&T version has bands 2 and 4 lte (while the tmobile version lacks band 2 lte, even though tmobile uses it). Not sure if they add wifi calling to Android after Jan like they're supposed to, if I'd be able to use it though.

  3. It's just to risky - he should just buy another phone (he doesn't want any of the huge phones like 5.2", 5.5", etc).

5 years, 5 months agoniftydl posted on tmobile.
Oct. 17, 2014

The M7 had a bunch of problems, true. Honestly unless your dad is planning on playing a lot of games and needs a 1080p screen, please consider the new Moto G 2014 edition. You won't have LTE data, but you get front-facing speakers and microSD memory card for under $200 with a proper warranty. There is also an LTE-enabled model from last year for $200, but doe not have front facing speakers. The model from last year is actually smaller (4.5" screen), which he might prefer.

Regarding T-Mobile Prepaid [R]

I am highly considering buying a used Nexus 4, and then a T-Mobile sim card, to use their 30 dollar a month prepaid plan (unlimited text and data, 100 minutes). Is this doable?

5 years, 6 months agokramerismyfather posted on tmobile.
Sept. 30, 2014

that was probably the most popular phone + plan of /r/android in 2012 (fond memories).

definitely doable, but why not go for a Moto G instead? better gpu, better battery life, much better screen, same mp camera.
