Beaten black and blue by the event deck [R]4 years, 2 months agoJune 9, 2015
GF is a Magic player, I'm trying to get into it. [R]4 years, 2 months agoanother_handle posted submission on magicTCG.

Hello all, Girlfriend is a Magic player and I'm not, she has like 3 boxes and a main deck, which I think is cute and very nerdy, and this is coming from the guy that has a coin collection. Anyway, she gives me another deck to play with but she totally kicks my ass as soon as I get the upper hand. We've only played twice, and both times were for her to teach me How To play. I want to get into it and get a good Blue and White deck, but don't have any idea where to start and what would I need and what cards are better than others and such. We are both college students, aka broke, and I'm the busiest of the two so joining anything outside of us is out of the question. Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks ahead -PGT.

ok, so u/w heroic is more of a deck archetype, where you get one of your creatures huge and smash face. you can build a deck yourself, or do this:
buy the Theros Event Deck, it has a lot of cards that follow that deck style:
NOTE: This deck is not Standard legal (Standard being a deck format that only uses the most recent cards. You will have to change the deck to become standard legal)
You can play this deck as it is; but my suggestion is to upgrade it with better cards as your budget allows. Hope this helps!

Thinking about getting into Magic. What is best to start with? [R]5 years, 8 months agocyberwolf247 posted submission on magicTCG.

I regularly play & collect Pokemon, but I want to try something that isn't just the same few decks for the Meta, and I hear this is more common with Magic. I'm considering playing Magic, just playing, not really collecting. What would be some good products to start with? I'm already looking at the deckbuilder's toolbox, but what intro pack is best?
Also, I read that the standard format is released in blocks. Is this a good time to start, or will the format change in the next few months?

I like to order from amazon to be able to track and if necessary replace/cancel/return my order and Gaming ETC which has a facebook and is a real store so you can talk to actual people. If you put these 2 items in an order you get free Shipping: $41.97. Cheapest, safest, and newest deal for MTG intro cards I could find for you.
I've been playing for 15 years and friday I'm going to my first FNM. What do I do to prepare? [R]5 years, 9 months agokidnemo posted submission on magicTCG.

Edit: So I just got back. I went to a booster draft and I didn't do bad for my first draft ever. I ended up with a very sub par blue and red deck but I ended up winning a few games going 0-2 with one of those rounds being a draw and the last one being a bye because the person I was supposed to play bailed. There were about 50 people there and everyone I talked to was very nice. I had a great time and it was an awesome learning experience. I realized my mistakes drafting shortly into the first round and I think I'll do better next time. Thanks for the advice everyone and I can't wait for next Friday!

I'd suggest just going and picking up the current event deck:
It's definitely not going to set the world on fire, but it's tons better than an intro deck and most likely better than what you'd brew yourself, not being familiar with the format.
That way you can focus on learning how FNM and not stress on if your deck is legit or not.

For a few bucks more, you could get an event deck, which would work fairly well. Or, Duel of the planeswalker would give you a good base, then you can see which types of stuff works and begin doing some drafting to increase the physical cards. http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Gathering-Theros-Event-Deck/dp/B00EECW5O4/ref=sr13?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1382432600&sr=1-3&keywords=event+deck
