About cheaters and requests for a DSR Watchdog [R]1 year, 1 month agoGreyevel posted submission on darksouls.

Hello /r/darksouls! Hopefully you're enjoying the remaster, and praising the sun. Now, listen up. I've been getting messages on Twitter, Steam, Reddit, Discord, owls from Hogwarts about coding a Watchdog for Dark Souls Remaster.
It's painful to say this, but there won't be one. There are several reasons, first of all I'm not so young anymore and I lack the free time to invest in such a huge project (and when I do have the time, I'd rather do something else than more coding and reverse engineering). Second of all: it's been 6 years since Dark Souls came out, there have been 4 games on different engines, all of them sharing the same flaws, plagued with the same amount of cheaters and script kiddies, and all of them pulling off the same destructive actions: it's time FromSoft fixed their own games without relying on the efforts of the community. Besides, the presence of their in-house "anti-tampering" solution has proven, over the years, how any third-party approach only nets innocent players softbans and troubles. Any tool I could come up with would only get you flagged.
There is only one way to fix this, and it's letting them know with your wallet and PR. Refund the game, hit them (Fromsoft, Bandai, QLOC) on Twitter, on Facebook, on their support email and let them know that it's unacceptable they still aren't accounting for things the community has suffered and endured for the last 6 years.
I shouldn't be suggesting you to play offline or buy the game on consoles to play the game free of worries; it's mind-boggling that you would even begin to accept this compromise. If I made it happen in a month without access to the source code, I'm sure they could pull off something way better with less effort; if they don't, they don't deserve your money.

What about Halo Anniversary, which has few gameplay changes (Only an unneeded kinect feature, and xbox live coop), but does have impressive graphic and sound updates, and you can switch back to the old graphics at will? On its Amazon page it's described as a remaster. https://www.amazon.com/Halo-Combat-Evolved-Anniversary-Xbox-360/dp/B0050SYY5E
It was also $40 at launch, while providing very obvious significant graphic updates. vs DSR where a lot of things you can't tell if they were updated or not, and the things that are obvious improvements, clash with the art style or the relatively low fidelity of the thing next to them.
Halo CE won't play on Xbox 360 slim. Help please [R]3 years, 8 months agoOct. 30, 2015
I tried playing the game, but it said I needed a HDD. I then formatted and put in a 32GB USB drive, but the same error came up. What should I do? I was thinking of just ordering an "Xbox 360 HDD" from Amazon, but I'm afraid the system still won't recognize it. Any advice? Thanks

I'm just curious to hear your opinion; as someone new to the series, about how you feel about halo 1-3

I bought them both a couple years ago through amazon(links above) with no issues. Halo CE Anniversary has Reach's multiplayer which I never touched, and Halo 2's MP doesn't work at all as far as I know, but they still worked just fine.

[Contest] We Were Liars. (A chance at an advanced reader copy of a book!) [R]5 years, 5 months agoFeb. 12, 2014
As some of you know, I am a book reviewer/blogger/vlogger/BookTuber.
Well, I have been afforded the RARE chance to share a eARC (digital advanced reader copy) with a few people from the publisher!
We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from National Book Award finalist and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart.
And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.
The book is set for release on March 13th, 2014, but you have a chance to read it now!
The rules are...
I want you to lie. Lie as hard as you can about anything. I want a story. I want you to link a product on Amazon that is linked to the story.
Four lucky liars will win!
You HAVE to be okay with sending me your email, and telling me what kind of eReader you use. I will have to send you the file. This is open to ALL eReaders. This contest ends February 18th!
As a small added thing, I would love it if you did read it, you would have a discussion with me about the book afterward. :)
And remember, if you do read it... and someone asks how it ends... JUST LIE.
And if you are interested:

Is it worth buying Halo: Anniversary if you've already played Halo:CE? [R]6 years, 1 month agoafterbang posted submission on halo.
June 18, 2013
Thanks! Me and my friend were considering it but it seems quite expensive and I was just wondering is there any extra content etc. and is it any good? Already played Combat Evolved on the Xbox + PC a few years ago.
June 18, 2013
You can get it for around $25 + free shipping on amazon if you like. You could probably even find it cheaper, that was just the first one I clicked on.
Halo: CEA has a few bonus features that Halo: CE didn't have; the primary one being the updates graphics, which look awesome. You can change between the graphics at the touch of a button which is also really cool. They also added in skulls as a small bonus which are fun to hunt for. They are also very hard to find on your own.
The other thing that was added are 10 terminals (like in Halo 3 and 4) which have a couple minutes of video each. However, you can simply look these up on Youtube.
The last thing that was added (you need a Kinect for this though) are voice commands. They are all simple like "reload", "throw grenade", "change grenade", etc. But they also have a cool feature where you say "Analyze" and the screen changes to a blue color (if I recall correctly) and certain objects light up in bright orange. You then look at the object and say "scan" and it will scan it and unlock pictures and descriptions of the object to look at in the menu.
I've never played Halo before, which games should I get? [R]6 years, 1 month agoafterbang posted submission on halo.

Sorry if you get this question a lot (I used search and it hadn't been answered in a couple hundred days). I have an Xbox 360 and have never played a Halo game. Is it worth it or really important story-wise for me to start with the first game? What is the first game available for Xbox 360?
June 17, 2013
GET THEM ALL!!!! Just kidding ^^^^^but ^^^^^not ^^^^^really
If you are interested in the story I would recommend getting Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary first in order to get an idea of what Halo is about. It is basically the first Halo game, Halo: Combat Evolved, but remastered for the Xbox 360 on its 10 year anniversary. It has the entire first game's campaign and a multiplayer portion using the engine from Halo: Reach (we'll get to that in a moment).
If you are still interested in the story, go for Halo 2 next. It is for the original Xbox, but is also compatible with the 360 so you can play the campaign. It no longer has online multiplayer, though, so it is only good for local custom games and the campaign.
If you purchased Halo 2 you are probably interested enough in the Halo universe to continue the Master Chief's story. The next game will be Halo 3. Halo 3 is a great game and still has online multiplayer, though it is fairly sparse right now.
Note: Halo 3 will become available for free download on July 1st if you have Xbox Live Gold.
Halo 4 is the next game in line that follows the story of the Master Chief, however, there are two other games that were released between them.
Halo 3:ODST is one of these two games. It takes place during the events of Halo 2, but you play as a normal soldier rather than the Master Chief who is a Spartan. Spartans are basically supersoldiers. Normal humans who were augmented to be faster, stronger, and smarter than normal people. It is a fun game and comes with the Halo 3: ODST campaign and a second disc that contains all the multiplayer maps for Halo 3 which allows you to play Halo 3 online.
The other game is Reach. In Halo: Reach you play as a Spartan supersoldier, but not the Master Chief. This game takes places chronologically before the first Halo game, Halo: CE, but was released in 2010. It still has a decent multiplayer population, but I am not sure if is more than Halo 4.
The final game is Halo 4, the newest in the series. It follows the story of the Master Chief after Halo 3, and I believe it has the most populated multiplayer as of right now. Though, the numbers are still fairly low compared to other shooter games out there. This will be the game you will want if you are only interested in online play.<hr />
Too Long Didn't Read
If you are interested in campaign and storyline go for:
Halo 3: ODST ^*
Halo: Reach ^*
^* Play these any time you want after Halo 3.
If you are only interested in playing online multiplayer go for:
Halo 3 (which will be free on July 1st!)
I would recommend Halo 4 over Reach, hopefully someone will be better informed on multiplayer populations than I am.<hr />
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions! :D
