[Skin Concern] Any tips on how to make a scar less visible? [R]

So last summer I fell into a bonfire and burned my left foot in the process. It took way too long for the wound to heal and in the end I got a nasty purple scar. I would like to know if any of you could share some tips or products that would help me making it less noticeable :(

Here's the scar

i used to be a lot bigger than i am now, and as a result have a few stretch marks on my stomach and inner thighs, and i used Bio Oil . it didn’t completely take them away, but they’re much lighter and you really have to look for them. almost no one notices unless they’re in super close proximity to me all the time or i point them out. it’s a tad pricey at some places

Being off my psoriasis and arthritis injections really sucks. Every morning I wake up to my scalp and legs being super tight from a flare up, my joints stiff and painful, and the inevitable discovery of new patches of psoriasis.

I’m 10 dpo and begging my uterus to do something magical here because this SUCKS!

Edit: I’m actually 9 dpo....which makes me feel better about getting a BFN this morning because I still feel like I’m in the game.

Its a mixture of different oils, but most importantly for psoriasis it contains vitamin E oil, lavender oil, and chamomile oil. These help control the itching, are anti inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti fungal. Bio oil also has very little smell so you can apply it without worrying about smelling like sir freshener :)

[Misc] Holy Grail Products Thread - Week 11: Body Care [R]

2 years, 4 months agoThorsKay posted submission on SkincareAddiction.
Nov. 19, 2017

Hi there and welcome to the HG Body Care Recommendations thread!

This is the place to share your holy grail body care products - the ones that are so amazing you can't keep in your bathroom anymore because your annoying little sister has caught on to how great it is and now won't stop stealing it and it's running out way too fast and she doesn't deserve this anyway because your parents gave her the biggest bedroom even though you're older and it's not fair and she got a ridiculous birthday present too and your parents always pick her side and the least you can do is make sure that at least your skin will look infinitely better than hers.

Here’s how it works:

We have a template you can copy. Find the relevant product type in the top level comments; then reply to that comment with the template and fill it out. Include as much info as you can! Smell, product feel, packaging, effects on your skin, etc.

Please note that we will be posting a separate thread for hand, foot and nail care next week, and a self-tanner thread the week after that.

Comment template:
**Product name:**
**Price (range):**
**Country of purchase:**
**Skin info:**
**Ingredient list:**
**Special info:**
**Experience & opinion:**

Make sure there are two spaces at the end of each line!

Comment template notes:
  • 'Skin info' covers skin type, skin concerns and skin tone/ethnicity/Fitzpatrick type.
  • 'Ingredient list' is optional, but encouraged. Online sellers like Amazon and review sites like Beautypedia often list a product's ingredients.
  • ‘Special info’ covers anything that people might be specifically looking for. Like cruelty free / vegan / fatty alcohol free / fragrance free / pH value / etc.

Don't forget to have fun!

Of course, this thread isn’t just about listing a load of products - it’s also about sharing experiences! So feel free to chat about your product with others, or ask someone a question about the product they like, or share your experience with the product someone else has recced. Let’s make this thread both informative and fun :)

If you're looking for recommendations

If you're in this thread trying to find product recommendations, look for the product type you need. Use the links in the stickied comment below to navigate the thread. agree on the gentle exfoliation -- just enough to slough off the scarred areas, but not irritate the skin the point that it flares up again

definitely use a lot of oils -- I've heard BioOil and coconut oil are the best (they work for stretch marks, so I'm sure they can work for any kind of scarring)

Someone just reccomended this to me.

Personal experience, the cleaner you can keep the wound the better the scarring will be. If its deeper then .25 in than you should go get stitches if you want to avoid scarring. I taught myself how to suture and did myself a couple times, its not hard if the ER isn't an option, just make sure to keep everything as sterile as possible or else you can get a horrible cyst/infection which will absolutly land you in the ER. My point - It can be really hard to take care of yourself sometimes but it's worth it in the long run. Plus its much better for you.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't realize you were taking about makeup!

Bio-Oil saved my life when I was getting a lot of stretch marks from losing weight. If you don't mind adding it to your daily routine it'll definitely lessen the appearance of stretch marks. It works a lot better when the stretch marks are fresh. If you wait until a few months later it might not be as effective.

What are your favorite parts about being pregnant? [R]

5 years, 7 months ago[deleted] posted submission on BabyBumps.
Aug. 11, 2014

I have tokophobia, an extreme fear of pregnancy and childbirth. I'm not 100% sure I want kids, but I don't want to limit myself because of a stupid fear. I'd love to hear about your positive pregnancy and birth stories so I can try to get the idea out of my brain that pregnancy is nine months of hell and childbirth is 24 hours of wanting to die.

I believe some of my fear is due to an ectopic pregnancy I had when I was 18. While I understand the pain of a rupturing fallopian tube is much different from pregnancy, I think I associated it with a normal pregnancy at some level. I'm also scared of it happening again. So posts of women who have gone through an ectopic and now have a normal pregnancy are doubly appreciated!

I apologize if this is the wrong subreddit to post this to, I considered putting it in /r/tryingforababy but thought it might be a bit insensitive there.

I can't remember the thread, but there was a lady on here a few weeks ago who suffered from tokophobia and was going through the process of getting an elective c-section approved... I know electives can be hard to get in my country (UK) but might not be quite so tough in the U.S., if that's where you are. The right doctor will agree that if your mental health is at all in danger from giving birth, that option should be on the table...

I don't know if it helped, but I've been lathering up with bio oil since eight weeks. There's a lot of speculation that genetics play a bigger part than oils and creams, but I haven't been taking my chances and hopefully won't get any in the next three weeks :D I was using this stuff: Prevents itchy skin too, and doesn't smell bad :)

A small question: advice regarding stretch marks [R]

i have been working out for the past few years, & stretch marks were never an issue when i was gaining size & strength, now when i have reached a plateau, these stretch marks are quite bothersome. they are whitish red in color. Is there any ointment/medicine/natural way to get rid of these ugly scars. Thank you in advance

Moisturizer is really more of a preventative - not a fix. I worked for a skincare retail store and we used to sell a stretch mark cream. Women went NUTS! Instructions said to use to help prevent stretch was just shea and cocoa butter in a nicer bottle than our other lotions -__-

I'm not familiar with BioOil so I can't really weigh in there. I'd suggest purchasing it from somewhere with a good return policy. Ulta (linked above) will allow you to return it if you didn't like the product.

After a year in the gym, I'm starting to think it was never worth it [R]

6 years agothoughtspasm posted submission on Fitness.
March 21, 2014

Hi /r/fitness, I am an 18 year old male, and I started lifting about a year ago. My starting weight before I stepped foot in the gym was about 135-140 lbs at 5'10''. Obviously I was quite skinny, partly to do with being an avid runner.

It wasn't long before I decided that I wanted to put on size, so I jumped straight into a bodybuilding program. After reading a few posts on, I thought the plan was simple - eat big, lift big. I consumed over 3500 calories on some days, WAY over my TDEE for just starting. As you can imagine, this came with major consequences.

I am now weighing in at 185 lbs a year later, and have made some considerable gains (but with some fat obviously). However, this post is not about not being able to see my abs, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

As you can see, I have the worst stretch marks I have personally ever seen from lifting. And now we come back to the title of this post. I have been asking myself every day, "why do I even lift anymore".

People probably wonder why I let the stretch marks get this bad by continuing to go to the gym. To be honest, I don't know why either. I have been active all my life, and I have thoroughly enjoyed making strength gains and seeing real results. But who am I kidding, who goes to the gym to just lift heavy objects... people go day after day to look good while getting fit.

I look at my marks in disgust and wonder why this is the reward for hours in the gym. The biggest kicker is that I am not even "big", I look like a guy who lifts occasionally with a slight gut. As you can imagine, this has been detrimental to my self-esteem. I can no longer go to the pool, beach, anywhere where I would have to take off my shirt. Isn't it ironic that the body I have worked so hard to show off, is the same thing I am most ashamed of? I can't even hide behind a shirt anymore, as the marks have snaked all the way down to my forearms as well. This causes me to be extremely paranoid in school, as I am constantly making sure to not place my arms in certain ways as to expose my stretch marks.

I am not looking for advice on how to get rid of/fade them, as I have been to dermatologists that have said the same thing - there is nothing to really be done. I tried the cocoa butter/moisturizer/retin-A/maderma - all with no results.

I guess the point of this post is.... can my stretch marks possibly get any worse? Is lifting worth it anymore? It seems like every step I take forward turns into two steps back.

TL;DR Is this what the kids mean by "getting ripped"?

Edit: a word

Sure! I actually don't have a very rigid routine. I usually do my thing when I'm switching manis which is about every 5-7 days. Before removing mani, I drench my cuticles with cuticle oil, wait 5-10 minutes then remove polish. Once polish is removed, I moisturize my nails again. I wash my hands then almost immediately reapply polish. I use two coats of nail envy for sensitive and peeling nails as a base. I also use a coat of orly bonder on top of envy. I found that having many layers of polish, including at least two coats of seche vite, really helps protect your nails from breakage. In between manis, I moisturize about once a day but I make sure to put plenty of lotion after washing my hands. I rotate amongst three different types of moisturizers for my nails and cuticles.

There's Bio-oil

Then there's Burt's Bees cuticle cream

And then Lemony Flutter by Lush

I like bio oil best because it absorbs into your skin really well and keeps you hydrated for a long time. Most importantly! Whenever you moisturize, be sure to get it under your nails so that it reaches your nails even if you have polish on. I really hope this helps!

I use moisturizer/sunscreen first, then primer, and then color correcting concealer. I use green concealer on spots and blend it out around the edges. Then apply foundation or BB cream on top in a thin layer, and a little more regular concealer or foundation over spots that need more coverage if necessary. And then some kind of setting powder/spray.

It's easy to get a little cakey with that many products, so it helps to use thin layers and let them dry in between until you get the coverage you want.

*Edit for BioOil. It helped to clear up scarring and redness, and is seriously the best thing I have ever done for my skin! This, and following the beginner's skincare routine on /r/SkincareAddiction have really helped to reduce my acne and make my face much smoother.

My progress in the last 1.5 years [R]

6 years, 9 months agoT-roy9444 posted submission on Fitness.
June 25, 2013

A year and half ago I looked at myself in the mirror and was disgusted at what I had become. I was always a fatter kid in highschool (weighted 220lbs my senior year) but after college I had completely let myself go and tipped the scale at 282lbs.

I called up a friend and we started P90x together the next week. This is where I started: Pic I was so embarrassed to take this picture but now I'm glad I did.

Over the next year I cut (stayed around 2000 calories a day a kept my protein around 1g/lb and did some variation of P90x and these were my resultsbonus from January.

In September last year I also ran my first 5k in 24:17 and actually placed 3rd in my age group. I ran the first mile without stopping (very slowly) in June of last year.

At the end my P90x journey I had lost 100 lb and weighed 182lbs and was very happy with my progress but I wasn't finished.

At the end of January me and some friends got hired as coaches for our High School football team and I was tasked with strength and conditioning.

The program I came up with was:

Squat (3x5)

Deadlift (1x5)

Bench (3x5)

Decline Bench (2x12-15)

DB Lunges (3x8)

OHP (3x5)

Pullups (3xMax)

Power Cleans (3x6)

Squat (3x5)

Incline Bench (3x5)

Bent Over Rowa (3x5)

Dips (3x8 weighted)

I followed this proram myself to prove to the kids it would work but I was also training for a half marathon in March, which I ran in 1:57:12, so my gains weren't great but it also meant I could eat more. I got a little carried away and by the end of May I had put on 23lbs, back up to 205lbs. I stayed around 3000 calories a day. Weekends became a free-for-all of eating all the terrible things I hadn't had in a year.

Once I cut back on running my strength shot up. I never really maxed anything but by the end of May my lifts were:

Bench (245x5)

High bar squat (295x5)

Deadlift (345x5)

OHP (70lb DBx5) I have some shoulder issues and DB's seems to work better for me.

I'm aware my bench is higher compared to my other lifts but I was a bench bro in HS and college. It's by far my favorite exercise.

Here's a pic from the beginning of my cut.

We switched to a 4 day split when we started summer conditioning.

Monday - Shoulders and Triceps

OHP (3x5)

Dumbbell Lateral Raise (4X12,10,8,6)

Dumbbell Reverse Fly (4X12,10,8,6)

Dumbbell Shrugs (4X12,10,8,6)

Clean and Press (3x6)

Dips (3x8 weighted)

Skull Crushers (3x10,8,6)

One Arm Dumbbell Extension (3x10,8,6)

Tuesday - Back

Wide Grip Pull Up (4x12,10,8,6)

Power Cleans (3x6)

Deadlifts (1x5)

Lawnmowers (4x12,10,8,6)

Bent Over Barbell Row (4x12,10,8,6)

4 Way Neck Machine (3x5)

Yesterday was a month into the cut this is where I'm at (197lbs) with around 7-10lbs I'd still like to lose. I'm eating around 2400 calories and have gotten back into running again. I've been working intervals and trying to get my mile time to around 6 minutes. I'm at 7 currently. Running a half marathon killed my mile time.

I plan to follow the 4-day split and go on a leangains style after the beach at the end of July.

Also I'm 6ft tall.

I think that covers most of it.

TL;DR I was a land whale now I'm not.

Wow! Firstly, you look beautiful as is. I would kill for my breasts to look that good! Secondly, I had very similar stretch marks on my breasts and sides after I gained weight. I used this stuff called Bio-oil and it worked like magic! I used it twice a day and after I went swimming or took a shower during the day. I saw a difference in weeks and the marks started fading by month two!!

The only other thing I'd like to suggest is that you put a little more effort into accepting your body as is. Trust me I know acceptance doesn't come in a bottle and it's way easier said than done, but it's important. I know I spent a lot of time, money, and energy fixing things that I thought were "wrong" with my appearance; as soon as I got one issue under control I would just find something else to be unhappy with. It's a nasty cycle. I don't know if you can relate, but I just hope you are prioritizing acceptance because our bodies are depreciating assets anyway. Invest your energy inward.

That being said, you should do whatever makes you happy cuz I wish you lots and lots of happy :-) Good luck!
