License plate mount for a 2011 335i convertible? [R]

Hello,

I got my first BMW a few days back. It did not come with a front license plate mount, but my state requires one. Does anyone have any suggestions for me without drilling the bumper? I've been looking at tow hook mounts but it I've read that they cause problems with the front sensor.

I had gotten one that was adjustable, so I put the holes from underneath. This was the one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013HP98C figured I'd share if you can't find anything else.

Front Plate Bracket, no holed drilled, [Mk7] with DAP [R]

There was a post a while ago that someone linked to this plate bracket, but at the time I don't remember there being an answer if it would interfere with the DAP. I decided to take the leap and try it, and I can report back that it does not interfere. I've got it installed up on the top of the grills.

Here's the bracket: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013HP98C/

Needed another piece of scrap metal laying around (I used some aluminum), and drill holes into it. Also need the hardware to bolt those together, of course. I think it was like a 40mm bolt that I used. I wanted to face the bolt/nut the other direction, but it was too hard to finagle my fingers back there.

I wanted to get this posted before the license plate ruins it. [R]

Hey OP, if you do end up installing a license plate, get an undermount license plate holder. This what I bought for mine. It's basically a giant L-bracket which I attached to the underside of the bumper, where the drill holes are hidden (I drilled just above where your rally lights are).

If you want to shell out the extra $, you can also go for a truly drill-less option.

Then, one day, when the laws are repealed (wishful thinking), you can laugh all the way to the bank...the bank of undrilled bumpers.

Anyone know how they did this to their front license plates? [R]

I used these brackets instead of drilling holes into my bumper.

This is what it should end up looking like.

So about those front plates... [R]

Who has actually been stopped or ticketed for not having a front license plate? If so, how often? I just got a new car and I don't want to defile the front, especially if there are talks about the front license law maybe going away. Or who knows, maybe I might later move to a state that doesn't require it.

Yeah yeah, I know it's illegal and some people would rather be safe than sorry. I just want a feeling for how strict the enforcement is so I can weigh my options.

Edit: Wow thanks, everyone, for your input. I'm a super law-abiding citizen so I'm not worried about cops using the lack of a front plate to get me for something else. Guess my baby isn't going to have something covering her pretty mouth :D

I used one of these to avoid drilling my front bumper. It's attached to my front grill with some bolts, metal brackets, and weatherstripping to avoid scratches. An even simpler way to use it would be using toggle bolts.

MD requires a front plate n i don't want to drill any holes in the bumper so i got this. sure there are other ones that don't require holes but are all $55+.

thanks, recently put the lip on n i love it. do not love the scrapping though.

If you can find a direct fit one that goes into the tow hook, go for that one. My Saabaru has one, I think it's Rho (http://www.rhoplate.com/) or something.. Grimmspeed makes one, too.

If you don't mind drilling into the bumper (after cutting all the plastic out of it to fit the FMIC into mine, I wasn't about to hesitate doing 2 screw holes), you can get the Autozone one.. this seems to be the one I got: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013HP98C -- except I paid 10-12 bucks, I think!

Here she is!

And some more!

Photo Album!

It is a 2004 with basics mods: coil-overs, wheels, full exhaust, intake and so on.

I'm not really a Honda guy, just a car guy (in a perfect world this would be a Mercedes SLS :) However, this car is one of the best I've ever driven.

You guys are awesome! Thanks for the kind words! Here is more of the S2000 and other cars I've had

Click for more stuff with wheels!

Also, I've had it for a while now. I promise I won't go back in time and crash it :)

Or get this: http://www.amazon.com/Bell-Automotive-22-1-46230-8-Adjustable-Mounting/dp/B0013HP98C Legal, cheap, and for a lot of cars it goes into preset screw holes.
