Guess you haven’t seen a wall-mounted splitters with a built-in surge protector before.

Here’s one. Belkin, $18, Amazon. Not really an exotic type of item.

Stop it Nancy. [R]

Mounting a purge protector/powerstrip on the garage ceiling - anything better than just screws? [R]

I have a basic power strip, like this which I will plug in 2 garage door door openers, a Raspberry Pi and a small parking laser. There is currently a receptacle in the ceiling.

I was just going to use screws in the keyholes, but that doesn't seem secure enough. What would be the best way to do that?

If you switch to the outlet-mount style surge-protector example it will be held in place to the outlet with the center cover-plate screw in the outlet yoke.

Otherwise, place the screws for the keyholes in a spot where there is a ceiling joist to hold them up, rather then merely drywall. If you must make a hole where there is only drywall, use a drywall anchor with appropriate screw.

Surge Protector [R]

Ok. What the fuck.

First off I heard the word "joule" once in 7th grade science and that's it. I don't have the slightest clue what it is and I'll be damned if I google it.

Can surge protectors take any amount of wattage? Just caveman this for me. I have an 850 watt psu + a lamp and monitor. What surge protector should I use for this?

Joule is just a measure of energy- a higher joule rated surge protector can absorb more of a shock and protect your components. Something like this should suffice. Not invincible but should be able to take a decent shock.

[Request] Wall-mounted surge protector with at least 2 usb ports [R]

Looking for something like this that is reliable - a lot of info I'm seeing is that USB ports stop working within weeks/months for a number of models. Doesn't need to be exactly like the example, but looking for something generally like that as opposed to a unit that would sit on the floor.

Best charger for the Samsung s5? [R]

My Samsung charger is actually garbage. I get much faster and long lasting charges from some expensive knock off I bought overseas.

What is considered the best available charger for the s5?

Later on, my living room charger seemed to perform comparably, so I'm not sure why it was slow in the past. For home use, I still prefer the Belkin:

For travel (and used in other areas of my home), I used the Monoprice adapters:
  http://www.monoprice.com/Product?pid=10273

Note, though, that the adapters are a little bulky. You might be able to find something with a slimmer profile.

You will, of course, need USB 3.0 cables, too. Just about any should do. I bought these, mainly because of their length:

They perform just fine, though the cables are a little thick and thus a little less maneuverable than a thinner cable would be.

Fellow hosts, do you provide a USB charging hub? [R]

Considering everyone uses ipads/iphones that require daily charging, a hub would be of great value, also if the guests forgets an adapter/charger, as long as they have the usb cord, they can charge their device.

So I was gonna get this: http://www.amazon.com/Desktop-Charger-PowerIQTM-Technology-Samsung/dp/B00GTGETFG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1417394859&sr=8-5&keywords=anker+hub

After 2 people ask me if I had travel adapter to charge their iphones, I just installed this in one of the outlets by the night stand. http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-SurgePlus-6-Outlet-Mount-Protector/dp/B00ATZJ606/ref=sr12?ie=UTF8&qid=1417626761&sr=8-2&keywords=belkin+usb

it has the added benefit that it screws into the wall and less likely to be taken.

Alternative method and cheaper, especially if you need additional outlets of course, it isn't as clean looking.

You can actually buy electric outlet faceplates that do that. Also you can get this, it has two USB outlets on top of it. If you aren't technical enough to swap out a faceplate.
