  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 32GB
  • Battery life: 6 hrs

A laptop for my older co-worker [R]

My co-worker is looking for a laptop to ask for Christmas from her son. She is very adamant about the price being Bellow 280. I also feel that I should mention she's 55 years old. Other things she's firm about is having an HDMI port and having something newer, and DEFINITELY not refurbished, I tried to tell her good stuff can be had refurbished, no go. Anyways any help would be welcome!

Looking for new laptop under $330 for college student [R]

  • Total budget and country of purchase: Under $330, US

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Prefer good battery life and performance

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Prefer light and thin laptop. (Reason for new purchase is because current laptop is 17" and difficult to carry on campus all day).

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows!

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13" to 14" give or take half an inch, would prefer 14"

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No, just the usual college stuff

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? If possible a light up keyboard would be neat, but I can do without.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I prefer a sleek looking laptop with a fairly wide display (possible movie viewing). Thank you!

You can get the ASUS L402SA as its cheap and light.

  • Display: 14" (1366 x 768 pixels)
  • Processor: Intel Celeron 1.6 GHz
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 32GB
  • Battery life: 6 hrs
  • Weight: 3.6lbs

The laptop is light cheap and can do all the college stuff you need it to. If you want backlit keys you would have to look at a laptop like the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM but it has a 15" screen

[SUGGESTION]Small laptop for light duty in-home work [R]

We home school and it's getting to a point where our kids need their own computers to handle some of the work required. It will be mostly reading and handing some light-duty educational windows and browser based apps, and writing/typing.

Budget is $300~400 for two machines.

So for school work? I think this laptop is good for the price it comes with windows office for a year https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Lightweight-Processor-Microsoft-Subscription/dp/B01N5E5T48/ref=sr129?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1504551449&sr=1-29&keywords=laptop

Need a cheap, barebones laptop [R]

I already have a powerful desktop, so I'm really just looking for something as cheap as possible. The only stipulation, which I doubt will be a problem, is that it can connect to wifi and has at least one USB slot.

I only really plan to do basic spreadsheet work and word processing, which can probably be done through a browser.

It needs hardly any storage space as I'll transfer things to my desktop. I am fine with a second, third, etc. generation laptop as long as it isn't horribly slow.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Something like the ASUS L402SA is a cheap bare-bones laptop that can get the job done. It shouldn't be two slow but you can't expect a beast of a performance

  • Display: 14" (1366 x 768 pixels)
  • Processor: Intel Celeron 1.6 GHz
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 32GB

In your shoes if you can I'd get this laptop for school and spend $1k on a gaming desktop and if need you can stream your gaming rig to your laptop via steam in home streaming. Some college dorms wifi block streaming or are flooded with traffic making streaming unrealistic.

Your budget is really slim.. In that budget though, this ASUS L402SA Portable Lightweight Laptop would do the job for you. It has a decent processor , 4 GB RAM and 32 GB RAM which is fine for the tasks you will be doing.. With only 32 GB storage though, you might want to look into an external or online storage source if you plan to store lots of files.
