[tomt] [item] those small plastic hands attached to a long metal stick [R]2 years, 2 months agoHGpennypacker posted submission on tipofmytongue.

You know those funny colored tiny plastic hands the size of your wrist maybe, and they're attached to a long (maybe telescope) metal stick.
I've seen plenty of videos of people petting their dog with it and similar stuff,
but can't find one right now. edit: found one Googling "tiny hand on metal stick" and similar terms didn't yield any results.
Optimal would be an Amazon link, but even a name for this particular thing would be really helpful, thanks!
Edit: I actually found it on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-Telescoping-Back-Scratcher-Metal-Telescopic-Extendable-Backscratcher/171214073450

LPT: Picking up trash is a life changing hobby. [R]4 years, 6 months agoglucoseboy posted submission on LifeProTips.

This is easy and very rewarding. Nature is everywhere, yet unfortunately humans tend to clutter it with garbage, damaging the ecosystem to the detriment of all of us. It's a big problem, but we can all help.
Find a local area, beach, river, forest area, whatever, go there, and pick up some trash. Simply put a plastic grocery bag in your pocket before heading out and spend a nice couple hours in nature making it a healthier, happier place.
Benefits: Spend time in nature, helping to conserve, preserve, and restore. (Don't forget to check out all the little life forms you are benefiting by helping to clean up their home)
Get a bit of exercise.
Make the world a cleaner, better place.
Who knows, maybe somebody will see you cleaning up and it will spark a train of thought that eventually leads to them helping to clean up too someday.
Instead of waiting for other people to change, to stop littering, we can make a difference today. And it feels great doing it.

How do you sit at a go board with legs? [R]5 years, 1 month agokimitsu_desu posted submission on baduk.

I want to get a nice go board and I like the aesthetic of boards with legs. My concern though is that I sitting on a cushion on the floor for long periods of time is not going to be comfortable, especially since I have back problems. So my question is, what is your seating setup for a board with legs, and is it comfortable, or should I just forget about it and get a board to go on top of a table?
ELI5: C pointers: how to use them, and why [R]6 years, 8 months agogoatnapper posted submission on explainlikeimfive.

I'm a beginner C programmer, and if something isn't de-referenced I usually just randomly add *'s until it compiles. Nothing I've found online so far has been a great explanation.

Easiest way I can think of it: Imagine a tile floor, and you are holding one of those toy claws. The pointer is the claw, the tiles are variables (which are really just spots in memory). You can use the claw to point at a tile, to dump something on the tile, or pick something up off the tile, or just see what is on it.
