Discussion and Reviews on Reddit

Laptop/Tablet for basic usage less than 1k, thinking Chromebook, Surface, or iPad might be my best bet (Reddit, social media, resumes, etc.) USA [R]

If this is the wrong subreddit to ask a question like this let me know.

  • Total budget and country of purchase: 1k (would prefer closer to 600-750) and USA

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Good battery life, will last me a while (2 or more years)

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Important

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. No preference

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No editing or CAD, I'll mostly use it for Reddit, social media, any documents I need to write, and trading crypto.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Be nice if a USB or USB adapter could easily be worked into it. Keyboard that isn't super tiny is nice too.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I'm not a huge computer guy if that wasn't apparent. My old laptop died and I'm looking for something cheap and that'll last a long time and will be able to do the few things I do on it.

I would only recommend a chromebook if you are on a tight budget, but since your budget allows it I would go for a 2 in 1, I would recommend this Lenovo yoga 720 because it comes with everything you need , i5 dual core CPU which is one of the best in the market and great for your usage, 8 GB of ram for smooth multitasking, Good SSD storage of 256 GB for faster boot up and loading, Full HD IPS screen which is a must have for this price range, high build quality, long battery life, 2 in 1 features, and it is within your budget.

College <13 inches 2 in 1 for all day note taking, USA, flexible budget [R]

  • Total budget and country of purchase: USA, $1000 flexible

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. 2 in 1, battery life, specifications, in that order

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Pretty important, I will be moving it around a lot.

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. preferably 13> inches

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. nope. that's what i have my desktop for.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? n/a

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? ideally build quality, touchscreen, pen support, and maybe a fingerprint sensor. keyboard/touchpad are less relevant.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. This is basically a portable college note-taking machine. Nothing intense.

I agree with Shopineer Lenovo Yoga 720 is your best option, but if you are buying right now then this listing comes with the same specs but it cost 50$ less.

Looking for a new lightweight laptop [R]

  • Total budget and country of purchase: about $500-$700 USD, purchasing in USA.

  • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Ideally all three, I'm not 100% decided on what is priority right now. I think the 2-in-1 form factor would be number 1, #2 is good battery life, with top of the line specs #3.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Very important, I currently have an old Lenovo x201 Tablet and i is about 1.3" thick and weighs over 4 lbs, and feels much heavier than that. This is one of the biggest reasons for upgrading. Including the charger and by bag, my old laptop weighs almost 10 lbs. I ideally want something much lighter and definitely thinner.

  • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows.

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Around 12"-13"

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. If anything, very basic photo/video editing. Nothing fancy in this specific regard. Most of my work involves MS Word/Excel docs (not huge files), reading and annotating in occassionally large PDF documents / textbooks, and lots of online work via browser, including remote desktop applications. Other uses will be for entertainment for my personal music collection, occasional Netflix use, organizing and basic editing of my personal Photos and Videos, and web browsing for other random purposes.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? None.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Would like a touch screen. Would be happy if there was also a stylus input option as my previous Lenovo X201 Tablet has but that is not necessary. Would definitely want something reliable and useable for years (I have been using my Lenovo for over 6 years).

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Other likely requirements/requests:

    • 512 MB - 1 TB Hard Drive (probably HDD over SSD for cost reasons)
    • atleast 8 GB RAM
    • CPU: probably latest i5, but I'm not sure.
    • Webcam + mic built in
    • Quiet and cool while operating
    • possibly SSD for OS operation

I would recommend the Lenovo Yoga 720 which for its specs is pretty top of the line. the reviews are good, and if you're looking for portability and a 2-in-1, it may serve all your purposes without breaking your bank
