Pretty much! Except that particular one that I posted is for laser printers specifically, so not quite a regular printer. They do however, make the same kind of thing for inkjet printers, this one being the best of those options in my experience. I prefer the laser paper, though, as I think it works better.

Oh, and the patches. You can get Tycho patches in different sizes from Nerdgasm Embroidery on Etsy. The detail on her sleeve is from the Nauvoo. I was only able to find one, on eBay.

Alternatively, you can accomplish the same look with transfer paper. It might even look more authentic. I got epson iron on cool peel transfer paper.

You can go a similar route for her belter tattoo with temporary tattoo transfer paper: Silhouette MEDIA-TATTOO... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0043WJ3OA?ref=yopopma_swf Or you could free hand it with makeup/a sharpie. :)

Good luck!!

There are lots of brands of inkjet tattoo paper out there, and after much experimentation, this one has become the one I always use. (Others really, really suck.)

Setting them up and cutting them out can be a bit of a pain, but they look amazing and I had one last nicely for almost a week.

Tips:

  • The instructions aren't the most intuitive ever. Don't forget to peel off the clear plastic film before applying.
  • Cut out the major shapes with scissors, then cut away smaller parts of "white" area with an x-acto kife. The clear areas of film actually don't look too bad, but they are a touch shiny.
  • If you have hair at the nape of your neck, watch to make sure it doesn't get caught under the tattoo film.
  • /u/kmactane made a really nice multipurpose set of tattoo images if you don't feel like making your own unique ones. You might ask him for a share!

Thanks! Appreciate the comment. I actually got this tattoo two years ago and it was my first. I had been wanting to get a Chrono Trigger one for years but was afraid that I would regret it - not easy or cheap to undo a permanent tattoo. In preparation I actually used temporary tattoo paper to see if I would like it, varying the size, color, and placement on my body. I'd definitely recommend trying that beforehand to get a better idea of how it might look.

This is the paper I used https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0043WJ3OA/ref=odauidetailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hi, everyone :)

This will be my first time cosplaying, and I'm trying to find a way to make a temporary tattoo for one costume. It's a unique one I can't find any pre-made options for. This tutorial looks like it should work well: http://lifehacker.com/5945600/diy-temporary-tattoos

Has anyone tried something like this, specifically at Dragoncon or another event in Georgia heat? How did it hold up? My biggest concern is that I'd hate for it to start out looking right and then melt off throughout the day.

Sharpie's an alternative, but since the tattoo definitely doesn't go with the other costume, I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Thanks so much!

You can print your tattoo image onto two sheets of the paper and then stick the tattoo onto your arm. Pictures from my cosplay: http://imgur.com/a/tXOH3. You cut out your tattoo once printed, stick it on your skin, and then dab over it with a wet rag. Just be sure to print your image mirrored onto the paper. Looks quite authentic.

Here's a thread from a year ago-or-so from someone that sent the design into a custom online store for temp tattoos (he says he e-mailed the company with the designs and got a quote so idk how much it cost).

If you can find high res pictures of the tattoo and access to an inkjet printer (though some people say they haven't had problems with laser printers in some reviews), you can also get temporary tattoo paper, and print them yourself.

I've used temporary tattoo paper which is printable. It works surprisingly well but there are a few tricks to them. A few things to note:

  1. It doesn't work well over hair
  2. It looks somewhat shiny like a fresh tattoo (actually fooled a booth attendant into thinking it was real)
  3. Even the white space is shiny
  4. They stay on for while

With this in mind if you print it out, cut out the white space, and apply it over a not so hairy area, they work very well. Mine stayed on for 3 days without much visible loss and that is with showering. In order to get them off it takes some scrubbing.

Grabbed her tattoo design from an official concept art image, used this godsend of a site to vectorize and size it up massively, split it up to be printed over two sheets of paper (due to it's size), and printed it onto this temporary tattoo paper. Hella easy.

But thank you, regardless!

The first time I did Avatar Aang, my wife would actually grease pencil it on with stage makeup. She's an artist by trade so it worked out pretty well, but it took about 45 minutes to an hour to get it on my head and hands properly.

Example - Grease-pencil arrow, October 2014

Example - Grease-pencil arrow, June 2014; first appearance as Aang

However, I knew hand-painting wasnt feasible for every appearance (I've done...six as Aang since then in the summer and winter, and talcum powder can only stop so much sweat), so I decided I needed something quicker and more resilient.

Enter printable tattoo paper. I designed the arrows in Photoshop (a single piece for each hand, segmented for the head, printed them out and prepared them, cut them out with the Sword of Exact-Zero, and had my mother-in-law help place them. They work just like any other temporary tattoo or model decal and they came out spectacular

The best part about them? They are so resilient, each tattoo lasted being poked and general movement without any cracking or peeling for 12 hours before I removed them. And they peeled off like sunburn-skin.

20/10 will be rocking these for the rest of my cosplaying life.

In either case, don't forget to flip the image before you print it so it will be in the correct orientation on your nail. Hope this helps.

Here is a tattoo paper for inkjet printers that you can print a design on and then put on like a temporary tattoo. It's great and really bold for intricate designs if u need it, it's just a little shiny (my friends and i have used it for tattooed cosplays and good although a little expensive).

If you just do the third eye and not the sleeves (since Cecil's design really isnt rooted in canon), you can always use makeup. If you want another alternative to the arm tattoos, you can always make sleeves or like opera gloves out of nude/similar to your skin spandex and paint the tattoos on first, similar to like how Jia Jem painted these sleeves onto a bodysuit. You can buy spandex at SpandexHouse.com

Should I wait a few months after I turn 18 just to make sure I'm not doing it just because I can? If so, what's the proper amount of time? If not, what is a good place to get a small tattoo done in the Austin, TX area?

6 years, 1 month agosimiangeek posted on tattoos.
July 14, 2013

I got my first at 18; had been wanting one for the previous year, but struck a deal with the parents that I'd wait until after graduating HS, and they'd pay for it. I ended up managing to get it a little early so I could show it off the last couple months of senior year. (Note that this was in 1994, when getting a tattoo in high school was still considered daring and rebellious. Now I swear they're getting 'em in elementary school, oy...)

I'd say if you want one, go ahead. It's your skin, you're (pretty much) an adult, and if you're paying for it yourself, well...Just be sure to follow the two pieces of advice I got. Make sure you really want what you decide on, since it's going to be with you for a while. You can get temporary tattoo inkjet paper to 'test drive' your choices if you would like, but don't overthink it. I took about 3-4 months of visiting and looking through flash books (remember, pre-internet days...) before I decided, but YMMV.

Second, make sure that the place you go is absolutely hygenic, professional, and schools you thoroughly on immediate after-care. (I know from experience) Unfortunately, I'm not a TX local, so I'll defer to a more local subreddit member to answer your second question.

Lastly, enjoy your new artwork; may it always make you proud.

Basically it's too perfect. Plus, after I posted that I found the original thread and the top comment was someone explaining exactly who the girl is and that her step mom (renowned tattoo artist) did it in Sharpie :P Personally I'd love this stuff for play but I don't have a good printer.
