I F*cked up. [R]

So I just got my Surface Pro 2 today. 8gb ram, 256GB ssd.

Before I bought it it was factory reset, so I set it up, and it booted into Windows 8.1 fine.

First thing I did was upgrade to Windows 10. It downloaded everything fine, got to 24% completed update, then flashed to the Surface logo and stayed there.

I thought that might be part of the upgrade process, so I left it for about an hour.

After that tried resetting it and such, but it just hangs on the Surface screen.

Whats my next move?

Thanks for any help.

Edit: Got into the settings part at start up. Used reset and I'm back to 8.1. Gonna try to upgrade to ten shortly

Final edit: Got it working!

I went into cmd prompt in the boot options part. It said that It was on version 10.0.xxxx, so I did the soft reset where it just resets settings, and apps, which forced it to finish the W10 upgrade!

Thanks a lot for the help!

Excellent! Glad to hear it. Enjoy your SP2 =)

Oh and if you don't already have one, I'd grab a power cover off of amazon. You lose out on the cool key backlight but you nearly double your battery life. It's worth it IMO (especially at $32!)

Any Bluetooth or USB keyboard will work. If you want a matching MS keyboard buy this, it will give you extra battery life.

Grabbed a great condition surface pro 1 for $50. Does surface 4 keyboard work on a surface 1? Or are there any 3rd party alternatives?

Just bought a used it worth keeping? [R]

Hi everyone,

So I just bought a used Surface Pro 1 off of eBay for $280. It came with the original OEM charger, type cover, and the unit itself is in fairly good condition. There are no scratches on the screen. However, the one detail that I didn't know before buying, is that the designed capacity of the battery is 42.002 Wh. The current Full Charged Capacity of the battery is 34.958 Wh (or 83%). So even though Windows says the battery is 100% charged, it's only charging to 83% (It was 85% as of this morning but has since gone down) of the batteries capacity. I need to know if it's worth keeping, or selling to (hopefully) get most of my money back. I really like the hardware. The screen is gorgeous, and it's well-built. However, I think a loss of 15-17% battery capacity is very noteworthy. What do you guys think? Thanks

Buy one of these.

You will get a few more hours of battery life. FWIW the SP1 is a great device, I still use mine every day.

Surface Pro 1 (i5, 4gb, 128gb) vs Surface pro 4 (m3) ? [R]

I was wondering if you folks know if there is a significant difference between the first generation Surface Pro (i5), which I've had for 4 years now, and the Surface Pro 4 (m3), which is selling for a very attractive 699EUR on amazon right now. I'm quite content with my SP1, I have enough power to play the games I want, but the battery is so-so after 4 years.

What do you think? Worth the upgrade?

Thanks for any input at all!

EDIT: By "significant difference" I'm talking only about performance, not the screen, nor the pen, nor the keyboard,... I don't really care all too much about all that.

Heya, just bought a used Surface Pro 1.

Any pro tips (no pun intended) I should know before getting it in the mail?

If you don't already have one, get a power cover. This will significantly increase your battery life.

Also, the pen that comes with the first two Surface Pros suck. I use the pen from my old lifebook but any wacom penabled tablet pc pen will work.

Oh, and get a pen loop because the magnet sucks.

Sure the SP2 is an amazing little ultrabook. I still use my SP1 as a daily driver. This keyboard

will give you several hours of additional battery life.

I also travel with a USB 3 portable monitor

and am currently using the Microsoft wireless display adaptor to watch the Olympics.

SP2 worth it for me? [R]

Hi all. Found a pretty good deal on the SP2 on Amazon, and am thinking about pulling the trigger. It's the 256gb model with 8gb RAM and the i5 processor. I wouldn't be doing anything too heavy on it, namely just internet browsing and reading. I want a better, more powerful tablet for work as my Kindle fire really just doesn't cut it. I know the Surface Pro 2 is older, bulkier, and has a smaller display than a 3 or 4, but I'm not really concerned about weight or screen size. I don't exactly need something to knock my socks off performance wise, but just to work with the option to do some fun things. I had a Windows phone for the longest time, and really loved the experience.

Buy yourself one of these also. Adds hours to the battery on time.

It's a really high quality PC.
