Why is the Titans Dolphins game on FOX? [R]

AFC only games have always been CBS only going to the mid 90s yet this one is on FOX and isn't being shown outside a very small coverage area surrounding Nashville and Miami.

Why doesn’t the NFL cut out the cable middle man? [R]

If I could stream games for $100-$150 for the season or get a weekend pass for $14.99 I totally would. But Sunday ticket is $300, so instead I illegally stream the games. In this day and age, why does that make sense for the NFL? Just trying to understand.

You've got a few options:

1) See if a high-gain HD antenna can pick up the Baltimore TV stations over the air. It sounds nuts, but a good directional antenna might be able to get WBAL over the air. They show all local games and your TV can probably handle their HD signal. You just mount it outside, hook it up to your TV, and you get every Ravens game live for free.

2) Get NFL GamePass and a VPN subscription with international exit nodes, which allows you to stream every game live by pretending your PC is in London. This isn't a great option, honestly. It's expensive, and every once in a while for no obvious reason the game is blacked out even for people in England.

3) Stream illegally.

Who watches games over a regular antenna? Need suggestions. [R]

I don’t have cable so I typically watch the Panthers games over an antenna, but sometimes the picture can freeze up. I know it has a lot to do with location/weather, but I can’t change those things.

So who also watches over an antenna and how is your experience? I have a $40 flat antenna, but wondering if I should upgrade or what else I can do to increase performance. I have the adapter that increases range, but I don’t think it’s effective.

Thanks guys!

I’m sick of paying $180 a month for cable, DVR, internet and a landline through Time Warner Cable. I could honestly ditch cable and get rid of the DVR and landline but would like to watch live sports and Husker football on game days.

What streaming services or services are best for allowing me to watch shows/movies on my own time (without taping them) and still be able to cheer my teams on? What do others do?

Thanks!

TV Antenna users: Is anyone in AVL able to pick up WSPA 7.1 (or any other CBS station)? [R]

They stopped transmitting the 62.2 simulcast that I was using to watch CBS. It looks like with some updated hardware we might be able to pick up 7.1, but before buying anything new it would be nice to hear what folks are using if they do pick up WSPA or maybe a Charlotte CBS affiliate.

More details about 62.2 going off the air here: http://www.city-data.com/forum/western-north-carolina/2902046-wspa-wycw-channel-changes.html

Ha, that's just my favorite Ola Belle Reed song. I'm actually in a bit of a cove, and have lots of trees and a ridge obstructing the southern view to the TV towers.

This is the antenna I bought. I pick up channels 7,13,21,33 & 50 just fine and a few other random ones sometimes.

Working on a client's house in Alpharetta, and we have an onmidirectional 40 mile radius indoor antenna to grab the local stations. CBS and FOX are coming in clear, but we're not reading anything for NBC or ABC. Anyone have any recommendations on indoor antennas that would pickup all 4 local major networks?

I have this one and am in Alpharetta. I get 80+ channels including all the major networks and PBS. It is mounted in the attic and then fed to all my TV's through the existing coax that was here from cable in the 80's. Works great.

Cutting the cord - a memoir [R]

My "bundle" of tv / internet / phone went from under $100 a few years ago to $225 this year. No kidding.

No way.

I have considered "cord cutting" in the past, but didn't think the alternative was good enough.

Having researched the current landscape it seemed now might be the time. I bought 3 Roku streaming sticks from WalMart on clearance for $35 each -- and decided to try "cutting the cord" for a week before my next billing cycle.

Wiggle room.

OMG.

I love it.

For me it is so much better!

My TVs are not "smart" so the Roku allows me access to YouTube and so many channels. I have a month's Netflix trial -- and when that is over there is Hulu, HBO and others. . .

I discovered CBS News streaming -- free -- and good.

So yesterday I called Spectrum and said "bye bye" to the bundle. My bill is going from $225 to $70 -- and even adding in Netflix and others I'll save money while enjoying TV much more.

Got to say that this subreddit along with the Roku subreddit were very helpful in deciding what device to buy and telling me about new channels to choose. The Cordcutter Guides are wonderful -- the Starter Guide alone was so helpful.

So please welcome me -- I plan to be here a long, long time!

I don't see it on amazon anymore, but it looks very similar to this.

I mounted it in my attic with a couple C-clamps, right to a floor beam, and aimed it in the direction of the nearest big city. There was already a coax line in my attic from the previous owners Dish, so I used that to get the signal down to my living room.

Indoor antenna suggestions for 2Edge signals (Fox, CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS all <30 miles away) [R]

I just moved into a house with some roommates and we don't have any cable and we need our NFL fix. We are renting a house so I would prefer to not mount anything outside and would prefer an indoor antenna. Here is my TV Fool report. CBS, NBC, and PBS are VHF Highband whereas Fox and ABC are UHF. In my living room we have windows facing East and South.

I'd really appreciate any input and suggestions. I've been taking a look at the Antenna Guide in the sub's wiki but it's still overwhelming and I would love to hear some personal opinions from users.

Thanks, /u/BillCIinton

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KUXVKK0/ref=ohauidetailpageo05s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have been very happy with it. I planned to mount it outside on the deck but found that it picks up the same amount of channels siting on me dresser pointing out of the window.

If most of the channels you want are in the same direction then you will be good to go. If not, you may need to adjust it from time to time.

I've tried posting on TVFool but I'm a week in and still can't get approved. I'm looking to get an antenna to pick up ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox. They look like they are all in the same area, just far away. I'll be mounting on my roof, but there is a small strand of pine trees that obscure my line of sight.

Here's the link to my TVFool report - any help would be much appreciated.

I did read the sidebar and it seems like there are a lot of variables, which is why I thought it was better to ask since I was left still pretty confused. I'm far away and the channels are roughly the same direction. Would a yagi style be better? Do I need an amplifier?

Hey all. I will be moving in the next couple weeks and am looking to cut the cord. I already have directv now, netflix, and amazon prime. Installer quoted a Digitenna Deep Fringe. She said it was rated at 80 miles, which may be a little overkill but they generally like to go one level up. I've read mixed reviews about the brand though, and at ~$250 plus installation it seems pricey. They are also recommending attic as opposed to roof for longevity reasons. It is a 3 story house so the attic is essentially the 4th floor.

Any other suggestions? I know Wineguard gets suggested a lot here. Which model would be ideal? I'm mostly worried about the main networks. Fox, ABC, CBS, NBC and CW.

Thanks!

I just got a 1byOne 85 mile radius that does both UHF and VHF. It works great. I had a grounding issue at my house (my grounding block is on one side of the house and the cable input to the house is on the other) so I moved it to the attic and it works just as well. I got like 95 channels... Of course 60% of them are Spanish/Shopping/Religious but I got the important ones too. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KUXVKK0/ref=cmswremapap_slRxJd5LuzQ7g

Reception on distant station improves when touching coax cable? [R]

2 years, 7 months agoce1337 posted submission on cordcutters.
March 4, 2017

I live in Toledo and am trying to pick a station in Detroit, as my gf likes to watch Buzzr, which is only carried in the Detroit market. I have an "outdoor" antenna located in the attic pointed at a window (without a metal screen), so reception should be close to outdoor level, with a preamp and distribution amp installed to accommodate all the expected signal loss from coax cable, splitters, etc.

I can get every Toledo station just fine, as well as a MyN station in Jackson/Lansing, MI and a TvO affiliate in Windsor, ON. For the Detroit market, My TV(s) can pick up WJBK (a Fox affiliate with a Buzzr subchannel), but with lots of pixelation and stuttering. However, if I touch the coax going into the TV and move it in certain ways, the reception improves. Then when I let go and walk away, the reception worsens again.

Just wondering if anyone can tell the root of the problem from what I've described. From what I have Googled, it is due to either:

  • Grounding (I haven't attempted to ground the antenna since it is not placed outside), or
  • Bad cable that would need to be replaced (most of my cable is from a DirecTV install from my house's previous owner, so it could all be aging RG-59 cable)

I can provide additional details of my setup if needed.

And it would be nice if it's just a grounding issue, as I really don't want to go around redoing cable drops.
